I bought MOTU Digital Performer 11 with the once-in-a-year competitive upgrade deal (get DP11 for $200 if you own a qualified competitive DAW) that they offered during Black Friday back in 2022.

I started watching MOTU and their Black Friday deals back in 2021 and for 2021, 2022 and 2023 they offered the deal but not this year. This is sad for would-be buyers.

MOTU have a generous competitive upgrade policy where they accept a lot of competing DAWs and that seems to include "low-end" versions of competing DAWs like Cubase Elements etc...

Indeed, I'm one of them. Have been looking constantly to see if something would happen, but so far not.

I would guess that DP12 is right around the corner. Since version 4 DP's longest wait between versions is 3y 6m, (shortest was one year, average 3 years), we are currently at 3y 4m. It's likely that DP12 comes out in the next two months.

IMO they should have a sale on crossgrades when it drops. It's a massively underrated DAW IMHO.

That's actually what I'm hoping for, that would skip an upgrade buy :D

Massively underrated indeed. DP11 is so powerful that often I feel unworthy of using it, it's such a high-end pro-feeling DAW. It can do all the linear or modular non-linear pattern based sequencing anybody could ever wish to do. IMO DP11's stock FX are also some of the very best stock FX in any DAW (along with MAGIX Samplitude Pro X Suite and of course UAD LUNA Pro Bundle).

Makes total sense, get the most stable version of 11 and the upgrade to 12!

One thing, they used to announce new versions at NAMM but they haven't started going again after the pandemic. There is no rhyme or reason to their upgrade announcements besides nothing in December, so January is a good guess, or tomorrow.

For sure, I really don't have any pressing new features I want, just refinements to existing ones. OK besides I think it would be great to have controls surface support for macros like Live and Bitwig do it, i.e. you get permanent knob assignments not unlike the Komplete Kontrol plugin without any plugin in the way.

The FX are top notch, the instruments are lacking. MX4 is cool, but they really should have worked out some permanent discount on Falcon for DP owners when they gave the IP for M53 back to UVI. I've got hundreds of instruments in AU/VSTi form though.
