You enjoy listening to music and you enjoy making music. There is a strong possibility that you may enjoy making music more with more knowledge and experience in different approaches. Harmony and progressions may just the route you've been looking for. It's not brain surgery or rocket engineering. This could be the moment you've been waiting for. You'll still be able to perform single note solo's like you used to. You may even consider different melodic ideas and expand those horizons as well with a grasp of chord progressions.

Tapper Mike,
I usually get defensive when someone slams my post, but in this case, you might be onto something. Making music has become so complex for me . . . and surely others. When I was 15, I had a guitar, a pen and a piece of paper. I wrote songs. Now? Yikes? I just reformatted my Mac, and it took me nearly a week to get my software set up to do music.
However, when you wrote, "You'll still be able to perform single note solo's like you used to." I'm not sure whether to laugh, cry, or virtually strangle you. I'm known for two or three note solos, damn it!
