most probably this misunderstanding came due to my bad english...

I thought 'pick' means to pluck the strings with your fingers...

It does ,it,s just that a lot of people also use pick as slang for plectrum.

B.T.W. your English is fantastic Jens,even native speakers are caught out when an improper term becomes common usage.

chicken pickin. The techniques of using the pick and fingers in joint. A great technique.

Edit: Most older guitarist will still use the term chicken pickin. I think Zakk Wylde was chosen for Ozzy's band partially based on the strength of his chickin pickin.

Both, depending on the sound I want at any given moment. Apoyando, tirando, taco -- no, wait, that wasn't a musical term... I usually fingerpick, for the increased expressiveness. When I do use a pick, I hold it between my thumb and middle finger, laying the pointer finger along the pick's edge -- this lets me tap whenever I choose. (A little EVH trick.) And when I play slide, it's gotta be fingerpicking all the way.

Pick, plectrum, whatever

I taught myself to play guitar but I was never able to do guitar picking, only strumming and fingerpicking. But what puzzles me is Vini Reilly's (Durutti Column) technique: he seems to do strumming as if he was fingerpicking, fingerpicking as if he was strumming...

And sometimes sounding like a delay without any delay at all

I tried to watch his technique in live concerts but I wasn't close enough

Anyone has any idea?

I also like to use fingers and pick to get a more concrete bass tone when doing some compings similar to this:

I love it for the walking bassline. I will slide a lot of fourths around using my fingers as well while the bass line moves or is maybe comping(double stop style-on the high e/b combination-there are also some other good ones in there but for the sake of brevity I'll move on) . Works great within pentatonics/mixolydians hence "chickin pickin'".

Btw, I really dig that chicken pickin' stuff. Can't do it at all (probably 'cause I hold the pick with my middle finger for tapping ease).
