Hacked Mythology for MYTH, the unique and quite spectacular synthesizer by Dawsome/Tracktion will contain 120+ patches derived from re-synthesizing 200+ samples of acoustic instruments, voices, electronic textures and some field recordings. All of these samples were tested thoroughly in MYTH, if a given sample didn’t match the required sound quality it didn’t make it into the library. Many presets use two Irises/oscillators, sometimes split across the keyboard using the keytrack-modulator, all patches have all four available Macros, the modulation wheel and sometimes aftertouch assigned.

Many of these sounds have a story to tell, they take us to wondrous places both beautiful and dark, decomposing the nature of the sublimity, gorgeousness, complexity, oppression and horror of our world.

Resynthesized sounds:
  • Various string instruments (cello, violin, oud, acoustic guitar, psaltery, piano) - bowed, e-bowed, plucked
Brass and woodwinds (trombone, sousaphone, tenor sax, bassoon, English horn, flutes)
Vocals (female and male singing, spoken word, vocal synthesizers)
Electronic textures, sound objects, field recordings
Drum and percussion loops, mallets, pan drum, bells, glockenspiel, water-phone
A first batch of 44 patches has already been deployed to all customers, the release of the full library is due towards the end of January 2025. You can view/download the PDF for this library with more details, the license agreement and a detailed patchlist including demo links here.

Specs:
  • Approximately 120 patches (currently 44), all presets have the 4 available Macros, the modulation wheel and sometimes aftertouch assigned.
Roundabout 1.5 GB of re-synthesized sample material embedded inside the patches.
    Delivery: download.
    Pre-order price: € 32 EUR.
Price on release: € 42 EUR.

All demos below were produced entirely with MYTH using only patches from Hacked Mythology, no post-processing was applied apart from a limiter on the outputs and some volume automation, if several instances of Novum were used in a track.

Improvising with the MYTH patch “Mantra Speech“ from Hacked Mythology, this patch uses re-synthesized speech in “Flat“ mode and a synth wave in Iris 2/OSC2 is ring-modulating Iris 1 - MYTH is great at manipulating vocals/spoken word, so many possibilities.

My own vocal samples were the very first audio files that I fed into MYTH. It’s cool to see how you’re also using it for intriguing vocal manipulation. I really do feel like a kid in a candy store when I open my DAW and fire up my hardware. 2024 has been a year of big changes for me.

Dawesome Music plug-ins have changed the way that I work. I know that may sound like a slogan, but I feel more inspired now at 50 years old than I did in my 40’s. Creating the sounds that I hear in my imagination with my Waldorf Quantum MK2, along with these software tools, has added a layer of satisfaction that’s difficult to convey with language.

But I feel it. And it’s fueling a creative spark that was missing during the last couple of years. Simon, I have high expectations for Hacked Mythology. That’s based on your previous releases, so I don’t doubt that it will be an awesome addition to this incredible synth. I already put my preorder in and I’m looking forward to the first available patches. 8)

Same here, since the release of MYTH 1.5 I have been really fascinated, throwing dozens of samples at MYTH per hour, learning what works and what doesn't work soundwise, definitely the best synth release in years, Avenger 2.0 was cool but nowhere near as fascinating. Despite all the sonic AI bloat around us, it's still worth it to indulge in sound design and use our human creativity to shape the sounds we hear in our imagination and discover things we never heard before. And MYTH is the right tool for this kind of exploration. I think the last time I felt this way was, when Kaleidoscope was born.

Here are cello harmonics in MYTH - a single patch, improvised:

Video demo for the patch “Hang Loop Duet“ from Hacked Mythology for MYTH, using two Hang loops, half time in OSC1. Explanations inside. The sound totally transforms towards the end of the video (Macro 1), quite amazing...

Demo for a patch from the sound library Hacked Mythology for MYTH - re-synthesized acoustic guitar tremolo in Iris 1 and interval accents in Iris 2, both textures played with chopsticks.

This one is quite beautiful, could be an organ or a flute, a voice or a synth, who knows?

Demo for the patch Calm Moment from Hacked Mythology for MYTH - resynthesized bowed acoustic guitar layered with bowed waterphone - plenty of Macro/modwheel activity in the demo.

Oh man, I absolutely love how it transforms during the 2nd half of the video. It sounds like subtly twisting or scraping metal that creates a haunting drone. Fantastic!

Thanks, some sounds work really well when you slow down the Iris index modulation, others become extremely warbly - which can also sound interesting - the “smooth“ resynth algorithm works better for this purpose but it loses quite a lot of detail and transients with sounds like the Hang loops.
The only gripe I have with MYTH is the LFO concept of syncing the LFO cycle to beats and bars in combination with tempo/DAW syncing which makes a continuous speed transition impossible (as we can not modulate the BPM parameter), but hey - limitations can also lead to new inventions :)

Demo featuring two patches (Metal and Glass, E-Bow Sprites) from Hacked Mythology for MYTH. Resynthesizing glockenspiel, glass harp, e.bow textures, that all works very well with the MYTH resynthesis.

That is absolutely gorgeous sounding! I really love this synth. I haven’t tried using recordings of acoustic instruments yet. I’m still working with vocals. But MYTH is able to turn even sub par audio into fascinating keys and pads. It’s so much fun to work with. That’s an awesome example Simon! 8)
