Wondering what tools people are using to add meta data / tagging to their own samples, particularly field recordings where there maybe multiple elements, like birds+ insects + wind.

I'm on Windows.

It seems you can do it in Audacity and Wavelab (I have Audacity & Wavelab Elements) but I think those only allow you to do it file by file, no batch tagging.

Did you try mp3tag?
Despite the name, it seems to support tagging WAV files as well. And you can select multiple files, then fill in your tag.

hi Bert, no I hadn't, until I read your reply I thought it was mp3 & wma, but now I see in the linked listings it says .wav. I'll try that!

thanks!

For music files I use TagScanner. I suppose it would do what you need too.

thanks, I tried mp3tag and I was able to add the metadata but unfortunately it didn't then get picked up by Sononym. That might be my error, I guess I'll need to wait until they add the custom tagging which is supposedly imminent.
