Dude its like, think of yourself facilitating a temporalinearized interplay between stimulus and mood rather than aligning arrays of mathematical relationships, and then it'll all be ok.
Ideas are bulletproof... I am not.

Wow...some excellent and provocative posts here. Shaman and Vurt, I found yours to be particularly on-spot regarding motivation and methodology...(Vurt, you got no problems at all with verbal skills).

I went to that Tate Modern last year. Total shit.

Me presonally, I railed against the struggle of wringing what I wanted to hear against what I was actually creating..There was always a flux between the two that most often led me to not completing something. A few months ago I pretty much abandoned that process & decided to place myself in a passive state where the 'music', or whatever you want to call it channels itself through me instead from me..It required a certain letting go that is hard to describe, and seems counter-intuitive, but I have evolved much quicker this way, I have learned MUCH more, & my creative output is many times of order higher than it was..It was also around the time that I stopped attempting to straightjacket my material that I began to recieve compliments from those that listened to it..

So far, so good.

seeing as I appear to be in a semi serious mood today, I'll add to sickle's comments if I may:

I find myself often frustrated at my inability to make the music I like to listen to or that which I hear others make. Yet to many it is clear that I have my own sound (perhaps I should appreciate that more) so I guess something is driving my work.

I find occasionally that the music just flows from me, I'll get a basic sketch going and a couple of hours later I have a fully fledged track.

On other days however, f**k all...

See, even to merely suggest someone should say that to someone else who's inquisitive and/or critical - it really does thro up defence mechanisms and counter attacks doesn't it. ;) Not saying you or Shamann are wrong, I just find it interesting to see the responses from a hypothetical suggestion.

"If you want to bring water to a boil faster, throw a dash of salt into it." ;)

And nice response vurt. I feel wiser and more complete now in understanding you and your creativity. :hihi:

I think you're reading waaay too deeply into my shallow mind...

SickleCell666 - I know exactly what you mean. At its best, I feel that I am only a vessel that brings something out of the void. Maybe neo-Platonic to suggest but, it's like there is something "out there" and there is very little interference from me in terms of its coming into the world. I live for those moments. That disappearance in the muse is the only thing I know that rivals good sex, other than a good canoli

I spend much of my time though, polishing roduction -as much as my poor ears will let me - and just experimenting in the sandbox of sound. Until those blessed moments when the muse comes along and starts french-kissing me. I guess one criteria I have for quality is trying to be ruthlessly honest about what is coming from that semi-mystical channeling of Music and what is being forced or "clever." I probably destroy about 90 percent of what I wrought on the world but what I save is generally the stuff that comes from when I'm feeling that "effacement."

 - Cypherone!

As for 'muses', even a ugly old xenophobic mind f**ker such as myself has acquired a few 'muses' along my travels. I swear, chicks dig 'total commitment'. Maybe they can sense it better than a group of guys can - I don't know? But all you have to do is stand up and say 'This is my shit - now suck it!' And chicks will appear. The wilder you say it, the wilder the woman. ;)

But if you wind up with Gene Wilder, you really f**ked something up! :-o
