I still wish Ben would reconsider adding a video subforum here. It would be easier to navigate different topics for streaming, editing, performative video tools, software, hardware, and anything else people want to share that might be in video form.cryophonik wrote: Fri Oct 25, 2024 3:05 am Revisiting the OP, I’m seeing 628 posts in 3+ years of activity on this thread, which works out to around 1 post every couple of days. And, there’s another “video studio” thread that has been around for a while and has seen very little participation by the people supporting a video forum. So, where did all the enthusiasm go?![]()
Poll : Would KVR benefit from a video tools forum?

A screenshot of shadertool a node-based GLSL shader IDE, which you can get on steam. Not easy to use without some technical knowledge, but very handy if you can figure it out. Good for VS and whatever other OpenGL/DirectX based visualizers you might be using.

Here’s Steve Pavlovsky (Liquid Light Lab) again but this time showing more of his normal live show rig and he goes into much more detail about Resolume, how he makes various clips, etc. I think it’s probably the best overview so far.

Interesting news on the shader front, with the release of the Slang language/compiler which can target all the disparate existing shader languages. Maybe not consumer-level just now, but probably going to trickle down to most of the tools out there eventually.
"The Slang compiler directly supports multiple backend targets for portable code deployment across diverse APIs and platforms, including SPIR-V for Vulkan, HLSL for Direct3D, GLSL for OpenGL, WGSL for WebGPU, and Metal Shading Language for Apple platforms."

An idiot on Set Theory:

Also, although there are dedicated threads on it, might as well mention that there's a new version of MAX that came out very recently. MAX 9 got quite a lot of new video stuff, including Jitter Geometry a new 3D model system, and Jitter FX, a video effects effects processing system. Plus a livecoding type mechanism if that's your thing.
And Zwobot for Ableton Live went to V3 the other week. I think its still the only Max4Live video tool which has full feature parity on Windows and PC. ( BTW if you're trying it out with the version of M4L installed with Live, and you dont get any video, you may need to install the MAx VIDDLL package, Zwobot have a video on that on YT)

One last one, though I thought I'd posted about this ages and ages ago, looks like I didnt...
If you're interested in doing ultra-cheap video-wall type installations, you may be aware that you can get HDMI 'video wall controllers' that will 'split' one incoming video into a grid of up to 2x2, 2x3 or 3x3 or 4x4 etc monitors
You might not be aware that you can get them from Aliexpress etc for buttons. Like around £30 for a 3x3 matrix.
As a result of that, the designer of the pi-based R_E_C_U_R and RECURboy video samplers released a software tool that processes incoming video and remaps it to reflect the actual physical layout of the output screens attached to one of these matrix devices, as in the image below. It didnt play video itself when I had a look at it, its a processor, so its primarily looking at a USB camera feed (so I tested with laptop camera and a cheap HDMI-USB adaptor) but you can feed it via NDI, and it can be compiled for a Pi as well as Windows, Linux and Intel Mac.
Its a bit bare bones, and out the box it only does 2x2 and 3x3(*) but it works. The compiled version has a sorta pay-what-you-can charge, min $10, but source is available, and there's good instructions on setting up to compile it.
(*) though I was able to hack the shaders for 2x3 and 4x4

Found an interesting site called 'Signal Culture' aimed at video artists etc. They have a small selection of video-processing apps, including a couple of free ones that are Spout/Syphon related , and a couple of 'cookbooks' that might be interesting. Havent tried anything yet, but at least I wont forget the website now.

Are there any video components to it, or the UI?

New preset pack 'Cyber Spells' announced for Imaginando VS, looks to be 9.99
Also seems to be a new version (1.7) of VS for download, presumably tied to this. Cant find a list of changes, though.
