How to Properly Use the "Custom Phrase Order" Feature

Hi everyone,
I'm trying to better understand how to use the Custom Phrase Order feature effectively, and I wanted to verify if the following phrase arrangement will work correctly for Pizzicato Strings (Strings Staccato):
A8 R6 B R6 A" R4 | A8 R6 C R6 D R4 | A8 R6 B" R6 A R4 | A8 R6 D R6 C R4
Some key points I’d like clarification on:
1. Are there any restrictions or specific considerations when applying this feature to Pizzicato Strings or other articulations?
2. How do variations like A", and fixed-length phrases (e.g., A8) interact with each other, especially when rests are introduced (e.g., R6)?
3. Will the timing and variations behave as expected in this sequence, particularly with alternating rests and variations?
Any advice or detailed examples of how you've used this feature in your compositions would be much appreciated!
Thanks in advance!

Probably the best thing to do is just try a few and see what you get. Took me a while to figure out what you were talking about, lol.. (for those wondering, it's the custom order in the idea tool)

Thanks for your reply! Honestly, it’s been a bit exhausting trying to piece together how this works just through trial and error. If you’ve managed to figure it out, I’d really appreciate a more detailed explanation of how to use the Custom Phrase Order effectively, especially for creating consistent timing and variations with articulations like Pizzicato Strings.BluGenes wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 11:25 am Probably the best thing to do is just try a few and see what you get. Any examples or insights from your experience would be super helpful—particularly regarding how alternating rests and variations are supposed to interact. Thanks in advance!

I can play with it and see what I can get, but, may be a while before I can get to it. Hopefully by next week...

I am not seeing why you would be having a problem, but, one thing to understand so that we are talking about the same thing and that is articulations.
In the context of of RC, that would be a key switch that turns it on or off. You have to select a note in the phrase to set that too. Some VST instruments allow you to play the instrument with different articulations, hence, you have a different key switch note to trigger it.
In the idea tool, when you would regenerate, it would not regenerate that key switch, so, it is lost. Which would lead to bad results when you try and generate stuff.
On the other hand, when you speak of articulations, it's possible that the VST has a bank with a specific articulation and that is all that bank plays, example, a pizzicato.. In this case, the regenerations won't matter.
maybe show some screen shots of what is not working for you and this would help..

I think if I write this in idea tool it won't even react: French Horns:
A16 B C D A' R8 B" R4 A16 D A" C B R8 A' R4 A16 C B" D A' R8 B R4 A16 B D C A" R8 B' R4 or this Choir Aahs:
A20 B R6 C A' R8 D R6 A20 C R6 B" D R8 A' R6 A20 D R6 B A" R8 C R6 A20 B R6 C D R8 A" R6
A16 B C D A' R8 B" R4 A16 D A" C B R8 A' R4 A16 C B" D A' R8 B R4 A16 B D C A" R8 B' R4 or this Choir Aahs:
A20 B R6 C A' R8 D R6 A20 C R6 B" D R8 A' R6 A20 D R6 B A" R8 C R6 A20 B R6 C D R8 A" R6

Can you post a screen shot of your set up? Which phrase generators are you using?

Ok, the reason it isn't working like you wanted is because you only have one phrase generator for each track. You don't have a "B", etc. just the "A".. Each generator would be a letter.. If you had two generators, the the top one would be A and the one below that would be the B, and so on.
You could use multiple generators of the same kind and once you chosen them, you set the properties to each by right clicking them while in that list.

If it gives you the results you wanted, then it's correct.
