Exponential audio are the best reverbs for me with so many options to finetune, I even suppose their reverbs must have been developed by someone who has also developed hardware or at least used a lot of hardware reverbs.

And it's only $39 bucks right now at their site. Not sure if that's a holiday sale or permanent price, but it's a great deal either way!martiu wrote: Fri Nov 29, 2024 11:54 am the best plate reverb ever made by humans is Kush Audio Gold Plate, the silkiest, smoothest plate you can find

I'm looking for a resonance-rich reverb/ room simulator. Yes, the opposite of what's usually advertised in high-end reverbs. Protoverb is a great example of the sound I'm after, but doesn't allow for focussed work because of the randomized parameters. Quantec's USP was their claim that their algorithms were based on resonances, and I like the QRS tribute plugins out there, but I'd like to be able to dial back whatever makes them sound smooth - I'd like "bad" rooms as an option.
Also, it needs to include a 32-bit VST/ VST2 version.
Any hints would be appreciated.

Correct. Look up Michael Carnes. He did several insightful interviews on reverb during his EA years.DCrown wrote: Thu Dec 05, 2024 5:41 am Exponential audio are the best reverbs for me with so many options to finetune, I even suppose their reverbs must have been developed by someone who has also developed hardware or at least used a lot of hardware reverbs.

You might like the SSL Flex Verb, I'm not sure exactly what you're after, but this has a slightly metallic edge on its room sound.Sound_Bear wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 4:04 am I'm looking for a resonance-rich reverb/ room simulator. Yes, the opposite of what's usually advertised in high-end reverbs.
For me it's generally too roomy, too metallic, perhaps a bit clangourous... Except when that's the sound you're after and then it's can be really really great. It's easy to use and a very good reverb.

i fired up kush GoldPlate per the earlier mention and while indeed it does sound great, the CPU hit is absolutely monstrous. one instance causes a 20 - 24% CPU increase instantly in ableton, just by dropping in the plugin. This thing has not been optimized, to say the least.

Only reason why I never used it. It sounds great, but not 20% of ASIO CPU great.mholloway wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 6:23 pm i fired up kush GoldPlate per the earlier mention and while indeed it does sound great, the CPU hit is absolutely monstrous. one instance causes a 20 - 24% CPU increase instantly in ableton, just by dropping in the plugin. I have FlexVerb and I like it, in part for the reasons you mentioned. But it's not available in 32-bit. Owning the license qualifies you for using its 32-bit-only predecessor X-Verb as part of the Duende Native series, but that one was coded by Relab and sounds like it - i.e. clean, smooth, nice. I use it a lot, but it's not what I'm looking for in this case_leras wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 10:28 amYou might like the SSL Flex Verb, I'm not sure exactly what you're after, but this has a slightly metallic edge on its room sound.Sound_Bear wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 4:04 am I'm looking for a resonance-rich reverb/ room simulator. Another reason: it hasn't been updated for Apple Silicon, and it doesn't look like it's going to be.HcDoom wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 6:38 pmOnly reason why I never used it. Wow, this is good information. I didn't clock that my license for Flexverb would also allow me to use X-Verb but indeed it does, just downloaded, installed and it's up and running. I rememeber reading that some folk preferred the X-verb to Flexverb so will be interesting to check it out.

I haven't used it, but I remember the same. Not surprising since the algorithm in X-Verb was coded by Relab.operandx wrote: Fri Dec 06, 2024 9:22 pm I rememeber reading that some folk preferred the X-verb to Flexverb so will be interesting to check it out.
