According to Waves T&C, you don't recall correctly https://www.waves.com/legal/2nd-license ... conditions

Yeah sorry, I was indeed wrong about that.

It must have only been a Creative Access thing, I've been subscribing for a while now.

Waves offers a free 2nd license for any plugin or bundle covered by the Waves Update Plan
Every year you have to pay just to have a second license. That alone makes me walk away from Waves. That has nothing to do with how big they are or keeping up with Windows or Mac. Keep deactivating/activating or use a USB drive. That's their gift to paying customers.
Actually, that second license may have been free for a few years now. If I recall correctly.
You indeed recall correctly. Waves started offering a second license for plugins covered by the Waves Update Plan (WUP) in May 2020.

The links mentioned above partly refer to Creative Access, which are themselves only recently new, so therefore couldn't be any older.

Anyhow . . .

I have a Waves account with some licences, they will all be requiring the paid update by now. Havent logged in or installed anything Waves on my system for years.

Other companies do better software and have better business practices. I have no interest in past or future waves products

I also don't really get the Waves hate, other than it being just par for the course for trigger-finger hate about anything and everything these days.

Offering 3rd-party FX chains will always be a little contentious given how source-dependent they are, but many realise this and are prepared for some to work, some to definitely not work and some to be close enough to only need a bit of tweaking. Most accept there is at least a lot of potential for starting points, inspiration etc. And all this can be a huge time-saver.

When I was researching IKM's MixBox, I seem to remember almost universal praise for the included presets. So there is obviously some love for this approach.

From the demos I listened to SV sounded excellent. Of course, the chains were designed specifically for the demo material, but you only need look at the offered macro controls to see how easy it would be to tame and reshape the results to fit into different contexts.

Also interesting to see how far 'Element' has progressed, but I don't see the comparison. One of these apps allows for deep design, routing etc. and the other is trying to circumvent all of that 'from scratch' process by offer professionally-curated chains. Not saying either is better. They're just very different beasts.

I was looking at cra8 or whatever it is called because I was looking for a decent wav samplier and it looks like it comes with a sorter of all your samples. sorta the same concept probably but it isn't my think really.

Yeah I don't really use the Studioverse presets. I tend to opt for building things from scratch. Occasionally I might just look around looking for an idea, but most of the time I already have something in my head and it's just faster to build it than trying to find it.

It doesnt really matter whether the presets are designed top class producers/engineers, if they don't know what you're intent is, you'd be hard pressed to find anything to match the idea in your head.

That said, it does have its place for those who are still learning or don't already have a solid idea of what they want.
