The humbuckers have plenty of bass, and a nice "rounded" sound, the single coils (coil tapped) really cut through. They remind me of my Fender Telecaster. 8)
Most people get a Jazzmaster for the jangle. Humbuckers are not exactly known for that, even when coil splitted. Putting humbuckers on a Jazzmaster seems like a strange move from Fender, which I doubt would have been very popular. I guess that is why it ended up in the sales bin.
But good for you if you like that look and don't really care for the Jazzmaster sound.

This video shows what Jazzmaster pickups sound like.

FYI All the new Player II Jazzmasters have split-coil humbuckers, including the more expensive models (blue, green, black & red). The new Player II Jaguars have single coils.

It's as likely that mine was reduced because of the buttermilk finish ...

You're both right. Yes, shoe gazers and Church of Leo disciples won't allow but yours can buck hum and you're able to get twice as many sounds out of it.

I love the single coils on my J Mascis sig JazzMaster but humbuckers would interest me because sometimes I want that tone and it’s nice if that’s from a guitar body and neck shape I know I am already comfortable with. Look at all the people that buy multiple versions of the same basic guitar shape.

One immediate thing is I never use the so called rhythm circuit, sounds too dead and murky for my liking so getting rid of all that stuff would be a bonus to me.

Incidentally if someone made a drop in replacement for that circuit space that did something I would like the guitar to do I’d be very interested. Something that I thought of is a control for a bottom string mute that operates like a much more comprehensive mute than you get on the Fender Bass VI. Deaden that string if you want to go open G Keef style.

Are you safe?

Really? I thought it was a one-off experiment since Fender does not show them on their website. :?

I had been thinking about a 5 knob Tube Driver for a while, so I figured I’d go for it while he’s still making them.

You may be right. Seems the Pau Ferro Jazzmaster has a different set of pickups to the other Player II models ... I found a few different version's on EBay: https://www.ebay.co.uk/recs?component=r ... _Sponsored

Awesome looking guitars for not much money ...
Reminded me of the pink, Paisley Tokai (Breezysound) Telecaster I owned in the 80's/90's. I do love a nice Tele ...
