Okay first impression :
- Atrocious upgrade price.
- The color & GUI is way nicer than Q3, love that.
- Mouse wheel is still quite jumpy, Nova and even FL stock EQ2 are smoother.
- Really like the auto sketch feature and how it previews the curves first before adding, really speed up the workflow for a already fast EQ plugin.
- I like how you can only finetune the slope at the bottom window, scroll wheel still jump to basic values (I remember excited for it when Kirchhoff came out but I realized it actually wasn't that useful).
- Really like the instance view, but I need to use it in a real project to actually have a real opinion. Don't know how good it will be when there are lots of channels and multiple Q4 in each channels. Also why is the bypass button hidden in the little circle? just put it outside and above the circle.
- All the dynamics options are removed when in instance view, don't like that. There should be a window for that on the side that changes depend on the selected instance.
- No drive knob for the saturation. Very dumb decision, what's wrong with a small knob? And the sound is nothing special which I expected.
- They said they improved the dynamic EQs sound which is very welcomed. Need some to time to test that and the new spectral mode.
- The way to change the dynamic threshold from auto to manual just by dragging is super nice, Pro-Q3's threshold mode toggle that extend the floating window was pretty annoying
- No oversampling for dynamic processors and saturation, bad.
- All pass is a really great addition.
- Pro-Q 3 is the same but I wish the bottom floating window was a bit smaller.
- Free filtering sidechain taken MB is world class UX design so I'm glad they added that here.
- You can now change the gain/freq/q values by dragging in the menu above the node, huge QOL change, hate flicking up and down like i'm playing a shooter game (I'm aware that there are keyboard shortcuts, but doing all with 1 hand is way better).

Overall : Good update, Q3 is my main EQ so I know I'll buy this, still wish they include more curves and per band phase settings, hope they update MB next, that thing needs an update real bad.

For me too.
But i don't think it will go cheaper on sale!
Maybe in summer will be -25%. Not to much, but it's better than current price!..

You can save pinned instances as groups and you can select groups based on track colour and then you can restrict viewing to just those groups.

InstaUpdate for me at 59€, finally attack and release time are available, the new spectral mode works great, good work, Fabfilter!

For me it was 59.10€ incl. 19% VAT.

I got my Pro-Q 3 in early 2019. Considering that Pro-Q 3 was released in late 2018, just over 6 years ago, that's less than 10€/year. Acceptable, I think.

A workflow thing : I find it strange than now a simple click is needed to add a node. I prefer double-click (less prone to user error), but maybe it's just I'm not accustomed...
And why not being able to copy a whole EQ instance to another, instead of only a EQ band (à la TDR) ?

I don't like it either.
Luckily there's an option to revert to the original behavior.

How about spectral? Does it compare to soothe for example?

I will need some time for that, I doubt it will though, they cut down too much essential features for ergonomic and CPU.

Turn off auto-sketch.

Please make sure you all give feedback to FabFilter through their own forum. They don't really read any other forums and are notoriously difficult to get to implement ideas and features unless there is a big volume of feedback from the community on their own platform!

Here are some Feature Requests that I couldn't get through (my fault as I was too late with the suggestions but they said they would consider these in future point updates):

- A 'frequency macro' slider. Would work exactly like the main Gain Scale slider in the master section of the plugin. This would be exactly equal to selecting all EQ nodes and dragging the unified frequency knob. The advantage of a single frequency macro slider would be that you can easily automate tons of EQ bands positions with a single automation target instead of writing tons of them.

I noticed I want such a feature after creating the 'Musical LPF and HPF' filter presets. I love automating them and various things in a mix but hate that it creates so many automation lanes. Partially it's my fault for creating so many nodes for those presets but they are all needed to get the psycho acoustic filters to work correctly.

- a simple 'join' feature in the right click menu of EQ nodes, to complement the 'split' feature. This would allow us to quickly join separate L/R nodes.

- dynamics features visible in the instance list.. or in general visible when clicking the "amount" up/down arrow that you get beneath (or above) a dynamic band.

- stereo unlink feature for the dynamics section. This would treat all dynamics action as the node was separate L/R but it'd still be shown visually as a normal stereo node which would make it easier to move and less cluttered on the UI.
"Wisdom is wisdom, regardless of the idiot who said it." -an idiot

"They don't ban hate speech; they ban speech they hate." -an oracle

One of my feature requests would be a mixed phase filter mode, as with Crave EQ's Transparent filter model.

My Q4 upgrade price is $89.50 -- no thanks.

I’m at $62.65. The only thing I don’t own is the Twin 3 upgrade.

I think this is fair. I’ll upgrade soon.
