We try to not be too serious about it. Just a bit of fun. Unfortunately half the people enter one time, place low (usually) and are never seen again.

Just so you are aware, all the voting is available on the published data sheet when the results are announced. In other words, it's not anonymous, and everyone can see how everyone else voted for each track. The challenge is also a learning ground for all of us. So, stick around, learn, get better, do more of what you like, in common with all of us here.
Culturally, there are people here from all over the world - which IMO is a very good thing.

This feeling is more coming from the voting than from my track, cause if I were planning to compete for a win, I wouldn't have submitted this, since I wasn't able to invest enough to make a proper track, it really was just a jam with all its problems, and I also tried even given the missing time to use myth in ways I didn't do before.
Anyways I really feel bad about trying to put all the songs into an order. So finding a way to rate songs is kinda arbitrary and subjective, and time and situation dependent.
I was often enough not sure about how to handle and weight all the different aspects you could choose to put into consideration. for example "I like the song but It its kinda a standard tune of Genre X and I don't see much of myth specific creativity there", vs " wow there was someone really creatively using myth, but there a lot of elements I personally don't like" , " I love that part but another part is feeling bad", etc. in the end everybody here put some effort here and did a good job, and if in the end its rather random how people do the voting and what aspects count or not. so why not make it a draw anyways if you need prices to motivate people to participate.
I just don't like this modern approach of making everything a contest, like all the cooking, music contests in tv. that are just random if no-one is making obviously errors. Shouldn't it be more like: Hey here we have a challenge that is supposed to make you use one synth only to get out of your comfort zone and try something new, getting inspired, share the results and discuss without rating/judging anything?"
So I won't do these regularly and knowing of OSC for ages and still don't participate Is probably a good hint that I might not join many in the future. Also because of the Time, cause especially the the listening and voting is really a time eater, and doesn't make me feel good, but I also would feel it would be disrespecting the fact that it is a contest if I would give 5 points to all.
Btw. I tried to find some factors that I look for and did some math to combine it but all things still are subjective and I also might have voted completely different 10 days later. who knows. And if someone gets a low score it's still on a high level, there was nothing "bad" in here at all.
I would probably join more challenges if they were non-competitive and all the voting would not be necessary.
Just my personal opinion. Most of the mindset I already had but it was reinforced by the process of finding my vote.

This is my own two cents, but: I like the subjectivity of many individuals' scores and their own criteria for doing so, rather than a limited panel of judges (or even a single judge) you would have to singularly appeal to otherwise.
It makes the experience more authentic, since a bigger artist would be subject to more listeners and a much wider pool of subjectivity anyway.
This CAN lead to fear, but also motivation: since this IS a contest, you want to do the best you can to have fun while also exposing yourself to your peers who are doing the same thing. After all: the Venn Diagram of success as an artist is when you are able to do things that both you AND others like.

absolutely didn't have the idea that this is a hard fought battle here
And In my case it's about the need to rate peoples work in a competitive way, that won't make me feel good, and take a lot time if you wan't to listen carefully and multiple times to 36 songs.
I guess the time factor might be one of the main reason for people not to become regulars, cause If you would, you wouldn't be able to do a lot of the things you might do without being restricted to one synth.
BTW. actually I dind't want to start a big discussion, I just wanted to explain my reasoning cause here were some nice people trying to encourage me to keep on doing OSCs.
I will follow and maybe if the chosen synth and the available time in that month fit together, do one or another challenge.

Dear everyone, I just found out that all my votes have disappeared. I am sorry but I can't do it all over. It's a pity though as I handed out lots of 5 points this time. Dunno what happened. Maybe Richard will find them back? I checked the page about a week ago and at that moment my votings were still there.... Curious.

Voted, too. Fascinating thing this round. It's probably the least OSC like round I remember, even BBCSO Discover still in memory. But somehow...this one was off the rails in terms of the nature of everything.

Yes and also "the horror"! ...besides the monthly poetry challenge this would add, which is a fun idea, too, I guess. ...but then let those vocals be freely recorded and not noodled into place with something that fights the very idea to do so.

Voted!
I would like to briefly mention that I had very little time to take a close look at your tracks this time due to illness. The good news is that I was quite generous with the scoring, as I didn't want to treat anyone unfairly because I couldn't invest enough time to listen to your songs often enough. I would also like to briefly mention that there was not a single bad song in my eyes! I thought all the entries were good, to very good, in their own way!
