Sufficient memory?

Is 24GB of memory sufficient for today's instruments and effects or should I go with 48GB? I'm not using any huge orchestral sound libraries. I guess the closest thing I'd be running is Augmented Orchestra for Falcon.

Edit: I should say that this is for the new Mac Mini so I can't upgrade the memory in the future.

Always get the biggest you can afford.
How original

speaking of memory, i just remembered i have to bring back the recycle bin from the back alley to the back porch or else the winos will rummage through it and knock it over and stuff

Are you without a computer currently?
Otherwise I'd say test what you're planning to use on your current one and see how much RAM that takes?

edit:
Well ok, may be difficult for libraries when only cut down or no demo available.

More is better.

More is expensive and most times not needed.
8 gb memory fits hours & hours of samples. To create a 2:30 song?

I guess I'll probably go with 48. Hopefully that will help me squeeze some more time out of it. $400 is a chunk of change though.

32 would've been the sweet spot but, alas

Hmm I just ran 32 tracks of a MIDI loop with UVIs Augmented Orchestra playing on all of them and I was able to reach 16GB memory used (I have 32GB total). That's way more than I'd ever use in any song. Maybe 24GB is enough...

Apple's Unified Memory is supposedly more streamlined than traditional RAM so there's that to consider too. It's not a 1:1 ratio but from what I read it's lower than 2 to 1. Decisions, decisions...

32GB would've definitely been the sweet spot

I don't think my CPU could handle 32 tracks of UVI. I have 8 GB Memory but I guess the OS takes up some because it says 7.65 available.

It was crackling and popping like crazy but it kept playing

Post

Mine usually does that when I put Ozone on at the end. It bounces audio just great, but I get that thick RED CPU line at the top of FL and it will play like some horror movie effect.

The Live CPU meter was over 100% but it kept chugging

On Windows all it takes is @ 97% before the audio will just stop.
