Since there's no demo, I have some questions:

Can you input notes using a midi controller? I would find this easier, especially dealing with more syncopated sequences.

Does the sequence trigger from a midi note in my daw? If not how would I compose music with it (I write using Reaper)

Does it work well with Reaper?

Does it work well triggering vst softsynths?

Thanks

These two features don't exists in Stepic. Stepic runs synchronously with the DAW and also starts and stops with it. There are plans to implement transport via incomming notes from either the DAW or a MIDI keyboard. But I can't give you a timetable, when the feature will be implemented. If you'd like to be kept posted on the on this topic, feel free to join my mailing list or write me brief email. You find all my contact information on devicemeister.com.

Stepic works very well with Reaper. You just load Stepic together with your synth into the track FX plugin window, put Stepic in front of the synth and you are ready to go. You can also load Stepic as an input FX. Reaper is very flexible in this regards and offers you a couple of routing options.

Stepic works very well with both, soft and hardware synthesizers. Besides the note sequencer, Stepic has 8 modulation sequencers. With them you can automate any parameter of your synth, as long as the device supports parameter automation via MIDI CC. Most synthesizers (soft + hard) today do this.

Thank you for replying, hello!

So, ok these aren't dealbreakers. Depending on how easy it is to program notes. I like the idea it can modulate as well, though I haven't really read too much into how that works. I assume you could set up a sequence of parameter modulations (Arturia'sJupiter 8 emulation has a similar function). Is this correct?

How would you start and stop a sequence? For example, I want to introduce a sequence two minutes in at bar X and then stop it or even change it (if that's possible), later at bar Y. How would I do that?

Are there plans for a demo? I would love to try thsi out

In short, you tie Stepic's modulation sequencer to device parameters by assigning CC numbers to them, that match the corresponding CC no. of the device parameter.

You can change patterns via DAW track automation. You can easily create a song mode by switching to the desired patterns at the desired track positions. To mute Stepic you create a so called muted pattern (no note & automation output) and playing it at the positions in the track where you want Stepic to remain silent. You can also mute Stepic by bypassing the plugin via track automation.

An even more flexible way is to use Stepic's drag & drop MIDI export. It lets you export up to 16 bars with all Stepic's MIDI data including randomization and CC automation. The exported MIDI can then be arranged, trimmed, copied, etc. in Reaper the way you want it.
I would love to try thsi out
Write me a PM. I'm sure we'll find a solution for that.

Thank you for the responses, I will do that.

I must say a big thanks to Devicemeister for helping me out and sorting out a demo copy, as well as helping me to get it to work. So far I'm impressed.

I initially purchased Stepic as a Max For Live device. Most of my time is spent in Logic Pro, so I was thrilled when Devicemeister released the plug-in version. It's proven to be an excellent creative tool for experimenting and driving my software and hardware synths. It opens up a new world of sonic possibilities and sequences. Highly-rated in my opinion!

i've got a question - during Automation, if I apply a filter sweep, is there a way to smooth the filter curve? At the moment, you can hear the filter stepping as it jumps from one value to the next on the automation sequencer?
