ASUS A16 2023 Advantage Edition laptop
D drive is a SAMSUNG 980 PRO SSD 1TB PCIe 4.0 NVMe Gen 4 M.2
Windows 11 latest updates
ASUS firmware and BIOS on latest updates, same for the 980 PRO.
About 5-10% of the time after I boot up, the D drive is missing. It doesn't show up under Windows Drive Management, Samsung Magician or in BIOS.
So far it only happens when booting up on battery power only. It doesn't seem to matter of the battery if fully charged or not. If I plug it in for power the D Drive comes back. I tried with and without battery saver enabled. Fast Boot enabled/disabled doesn't change anything. I've done all the standard Windows PC optimizations for DAWs. No errors are detected in Device Manager, ASUS diagnostics or Samsung Magician. Other than the D drive everything runs great.
Any ideas?

I had a similar problem that took me months to resolve but IIRC the eventual solution was to switch from RAID to AHCI in the BIOS. If you search for "switch raid to ahci without reinstalling windows" you'll find instructions for how to do this.

I checked the in BIOS and the SATA Mode Selection is already set to AHCI. Thanks though. I will definitely file the RAID to AHCI switch info away for future reference.

OK shame, have you attempted re-seating the drive in the M2 slot? Might be worth a try

I pulled the drive, put it in an empty slot on my desktop and it checked out fine. Put it back in the laptop and it works now. Hopefully it just needed to be re-seated. If it disappears again I'll try replacing ASUS Armory Crate with G-Helper. I may do that anyway since Amory Crate can cause problems for some users.

My laptop does the same - I've got two external drives (8tb one with its own power supply and a 4tb one drawing power from the USB port). If I turn on the laptop without the mains turned on then the USB powered drive wont appear the majority of the time, though the external powered one is fine
I was under the assumption that it's just a current draw thing - Not enough amps get 'pushed' through the usb port on battery mode to increase battery life, but when on mains the ampage increases enough to power the drive
EDIT: Sorry ignore this, didn't read the model specs of your secondary/D drive - It's internal right, and not in an external enclosure ?

Yes, it's internal. But possibly still power related. I read a post where the user claimed he fixed his disappearing drive by disabling startup programs he thought were drawing too much power through the CPU.
