OCELOT TRUE PEAK LIMITER RELEASE

Image

ADAPTIVE LIMITING

Imagine a limiter that doesn’t just make your audio louder – it also makes smarter decisions about when to limit and when to hold back. The OCELOT Limiter uses advanced psychoacoustic analysis to ensure your mix stays clean and punchy, while maximizing loudness. With its intelligent approach, it helps you push levels higher without the usual artifacts of traditional limiters.

SOFT CLIPPER

A switchable soft clipper catches isolated peaks at the start of the processing chain, reducing the limiter’s workload. This approach results in louder output with less pumping and exceptional transparency. When pushed further, it adds a touch of aggressiveness, delivering a punchy and polished sound without introducing obvious distortion.

TRUE PEAK

The OCELOT Limiter’s true peak feature ensures precise level control by adhering to the ITU-R BS.1770 standard. This mode anticipates inter-sample peaks that could cause distortion when your signal gets converted to the analog domain, keeping audio clean and accurately below the threshold level. True peak is invaluable for mastering and all tasks where pristine sound quality is critical.

FIVE FLAVORS

With five selectable algorithms, the plugin precisely adapts to any source material, offering tailored responses from the limiter and soft clipper. The 1:1 and delta listen features allow you to fine-tune for optimal signal integrity. Noise shaping, dithering, and quantization further enhance its versatility, making the OCELOT Limiter the ultimate tool for adding power to your tracks and masters.

Fixed..thanks for the hint

I will say it here, too.

This is one of my favorite limiters, period! And I say that as someone who still spends limitless hours testing and comparing them. In my honest opinion Ocelot is one of the best broadband limiters on the market.

I am very proud of this one as one of the beta testers, it has been the longest beta period so far and we have pushed Ray to the limit (pun not intended) so this gem was the final result!

Thank you Ray for having the nerves to bear with us and being such an awesome developer and person!

When I hold shift to get fine control on the ceiling it also moves the input gain. Maybe fine control should use alt instead? I thought it was bugged at first. A nitpick, but I also don't feel the fine control is fine enough, it's still quite finicky.

In some projects opening the interface adds about 10-14% to FL Studio's CPU meter (Win 10, VST3). Hiding the waveform visual makes no difference. Not sure why it's more in some projects than others. Hopefully that's something that can be optimised, it's a real problem with CPU intensive projects.

The UI is very nice, well laid out and easy on the eyes. ISP protection is decent, I found I needed to set the ceiling to -0.3 to ensure no peaks went above -0.1. Sounds good, seems to retain low end quite well, also a little brighter than my goto Barricade 4. If the CPU issue can get sorted I'd feel more confident in using it.

Sounds good, no aliasing, competes easily with FF Pro-L 2 and TB Barricade 4 loudness wise. I noticed that Pro-L 2 sounds a tiny wider then Ocelot and more defined on the sides, while Ocelot controlled low end better and had it a tad more in the center. Whats your experience guys? Anyway, great job by Reimund, as usual.

I made the same test as always : try it on my reference song.

Almost didn’t gain a single dB without forcing distorsion to appear by abusing the attack/release parameters. I tried every algo, all parameters, no luck.

I think this one is not aimed at crazy loudness. It must be more your clean clean limiter.

So I don’t think it can compete with Pro-L2 or those huge loudness machines. Try it on an already very loud song and you’ll see what I’m talking about. And no problem with this, different usage, that’s all. This one is a clean one.

Have you tried using the mousewheel + shift? That should give you more fine control.

I'm surprised about your report on high CPU load. It should be less than ~3% on a decent machine even with TP enabled. Does the CPU figure drop once you close the GUI? If so, what are your UI size and quality settings? Does the load decrease if you set it to 100%.

Thanks and sorry for the inconvenience.

Best,
Ray

Just checked both links for mac and win and they seem to work fine. You're the first one to report this type of issue. Can you reload the page and then retry please?

Best,
Ray

The mousewheel thing works, thanks :tu:

Yep, CPU instantly drops back to normal when the UI is closed. UI size is normal and quality is high, but those settings have no effect on the CPU, at least on my system.

Bypassing the plugin with the UI open using the plugin's own bypass has no immediate effect on CPU, but will gradually drop to a little above normal over about 5 seconds. However, bypassing the plugin in the DAW with the UI open will instantly cause the CPU to drop to normal.

It works now, but yesterday it said: File not found

I'm sure they have their own reasons for this, but I do very much dislike having to create an account to demo software. It may seem like no big deal in isolation, but when hundreds of companies do the same thing, it's a bit more than that.
