It gives me the sense of evolving, not staying in the same place, and this comes with even more fun and inspiration. I think is the most productive technique someone can have in this day and age, with all the live plugins, modular, and midi options.
Agreed. Freezing isn't good enough because you need to be able to manipulate the audio file.
Bitwig offer best of both world with hybrid tracks. Basically you render whatever you want but you can keep it on the same track. Some of my blocks are printed, some are not, it is maximum flexibility.

1) Listening often with my DAW minimised, looking at a blank (black) windows desktop, Don't want to be biased by how cool my plugins/DAW screen looks because my listeners won't see that
2) Accepting that sometimes a well recorded part just doesn't need any FX. Really.

PS I just noticed that for me this is KVR post 2,222. How cool is that?

You now have two choices: never post again or vow to post at least 1,111 more posts.

Intention. For each sound, each track, and the piece itself. Also movement, it has to go somewhere. Minimalism as has been commented. I rarely use compression or eq on sounds from virtual instruments, i just make the freq spectrum and dynamics from scratch. Separating different aspects of creating from sound design, and from structure.

Music is not the notes, it is the space between the notes. I forgot who originally said that.

Biggest thing for me was by using reference tracks, and also recreating drum/fx patterns on said references (as drum programming is a clear area of improvement for me)
