Not a lot of buzz here on this one. Anyone tried it?

Seems like it's intended to be a RC-20 killer with a little bit of Transit baked in. What say you KVR?

Post

I like it, good quality effects and snazzy UI (imo). Easy to get good results with, but more
along the lines of Transit, as opposed to something like infiltrator, with the exception
of the mix type effects, where infiltrator
doesnt have a lot of focus on them.

Anyway, its got some bugs they need to
work out still, and its not super cheap.
I like it, and will prob puck it up, dependant
on the bugs, personally the macro system
is not fully functional for me. I am dealing
with support on that currently.

So the bugs you found are related to the macro system? If I demo this, what should I look out for?

For me anyway, tho i got a cheap pc with an intel iris xe onboard gpu. I havent heard any
other reports on it other than trouble with
studio one 7.

For me the macro binding does not fully work. e.g. i cannot assign a parameter
to the macro, that wasnt already like that.

I'm a big fan of Serato Sample, caught the demo vid of this and it impressed for the most part. How is the cpu hit?

Post

cpu use is good imo :tu:

At least it is on my Core i5, 11th gen with 12 GB of Ram... :)

*Tho this plugin will cost me more than the computer did...

I downloaded Hex and messed around with it a bit last night. No testing the macro/automation, just preset browsing. It's a really nice plugin and Serato's choice of effect modules are very logical for the DJ/remix crowd, and for anyone who just needs a good multi-effect. It does kind of strike me as an RC-20 killer - same basic layout, but way more effect options, plus the macro knob.

That said, aside for a nicer workflow in certain use cases, I'm not sure what additional value this would provide over my other multi-effect plugins like Transit, Infiltrator, and Shaperbox. Hex seems like it's more about preserving and enhancing the original signal versus say Infiltrator which is more of an audio mangler IMO. And I'd rather reach for HexFX for a general multi-effect use case over Transit, which would be the obvious choice for transitions. But ultimately both these tools plus Shaperbox and all my other standalone plugins can do what Hex does.

If I didn't already own Transit, I'd probably buy Hex. But there's a lot of overlap between those 2 products. I do think the $99 price tag is fair for what it does, but for me it's more of a nice to have than a need. So I'll probably put this one on my 'maybe someday' list. A nicely discounted bundle with Hex, Sample, and Pitch N Time would be a compelling offering.

Thanks for the answer ^^ and short review ^ I'm in the same boat far as it's a want not a need atm but it sounds good so prob. I'll pick it up if it ever goes on deeper sale down the road.

I had issues in the demo with the macro system (unless user error). When I right click on most knobs in a New init preset there’s only an “unlink” option (even though it’s not linked) and it’s greyed out. Seems like a bug (Mac, Bitwig).

I do like it a lot though. Easy to use and sounds good. Liked a lot of presets too. If they fix the macro I’ll get it for live gigs especially.

That binding issue has been reported. They were pretty good about getting back to me, until i sent them a video of the issue at their request. Havent heard back about it in a few days.
