The M-Track 2x2 (c-series) is recognized as audio out, but microphone in is not recognized - W10, W11, various USB ports, various USB cables.
What could be the reason for this?

It's an old interface, not in shops any more since a couple of years.
So it could simply be a defective unit.

Is it just with asio, have you tested with Audacity whether it does work with wdm, mme or wasapi drivers?

I suspect you got it second hand?
Ask the seller. Either for instructions, or a refund.

Ok, I just thought that because the M-Track is recognized as a speaker output and can be used, but unfortunately not as a microphone. Thanks anyway

The issue could be due to outdated or incorrect drivers, improper audio settings, or a hardware conflict. Ensure you:

Install the latest M-Audio drivers for the M-Track 2x2.
Set the M-Track as the default input device in your sound settings.
Check the microphone gain and connection.
Test on another system to rule out hardware issues.

Thank you very much for your effort and persistence in writing down even the "simplest" things again  . I just thought I had installed the right drivers. But they were the wrong ones (M-Track Duo) :dog: , the right ones (legacy) are here (in case someone finds this topic with the same problem):
