Sonar: Get tempo from sample?

I want to import two verses of a song and add some rythm tracks. It seems like I might get there by trial and error, and a lot of splitting of the audio track, but I wonder if there is a better way to do this. Using the Loop window only makes things really weird. The soundfile is a choir, so there is not much thumping to indicate the beats.
Anyone have any experience in this?

I'm confused. Are the verses the choir you are talking about? And you are trying to derive the tempo and then add drum loops to it? Is this correct?

Thanks for responding. To clarify: Yes, the WAV-file I want to add to is a choir singing a song. And yes, I want to add some rythm and other elements using various plug-ins (not drum loops). The problem is, with rythmic elements it is essential to get the singing more or less synced to the rythm.

Easiest solution to this is to ignore any vertical bars that show up in your sequencer, and just add rhytm tracks by ear. Midi tracks playing a drum VSTi I mean, no loops. Or trigger the separate slices of your loops (cut 'em in 16 and play those in order)
Start with adding a simple click track for orientation, fiddle with timing until that matches OK.

Trim the audio so it loops at 4, 8, or 16 bars. Right Click, enable groove clip looping, then double click the clip to open the loop construction view, the tempo will be displayed.Anders_S wrote:I want to import two verses of a song and add some rythm tracks. You could also try Fit Improvisation, but I would consult the help first.
I'm glad the c major scale was invented before copyright law

There is an "extract timing" feature, which I have never used. Chhose Process> Audio>Extract Timing. Scott Garrigus' Sonar Power 3 deals with it at page 180. I don't know where it is referenced in the Sonar manual.
Good luck!
