Hello,
I need help

since my laptop(builtin mic) in the room where the dog barks sometime makes recording ocenaudio of 22m 25 min instead of 2hours in reality and i dont find a solution(did not receive answer to my other post) to make ocenaudio do complete recordings my backup plan is to use my main desktop pc i an other room to record using a sort of usb extention .

I do have a samson q1 but i cant evaluate if it works well . It is old an have been dropped on the floor several times .
with it directly connected to the pc without extension ,in audacity i see the wavelenth in audacity but when i listen it does not sound good and sound is very low.
I have little time I am willing to buy a new low budget mic enough to record dog barking the mic will be 3 meters from the crate and the main pc is in the other room needing a 10 meter extension . I dont want to use wifi or bluetooth

Since the mic will be in the room adjescent to the main pc i guess i will need to buy some kind of extension cable to link the 2 of them.

Now i do have a 10 meter usb like link at the bottom but im no expert but maybe it is not the best extenter to do the job, something having to do with not enough power? is it possible that a simple usb extender lower the sound recording? Maybe a extension or hub with its own energy supply would work better ? i m noob.

Can someone propose me a low budjet mic with a low budjet extension device for 10 meter that we are confident would record dog barking ok? if it is a hub tha gives like 4 usb plug im for it if it is not a huge price jump. I dont need excellent quality since i record dog barks.. give me options if possible with links or name of device. ultimatly I wish to use ocenaudio because of its fastest saving and to save space of the files to be archived
thanks

I always suggest the Behringer XM8500 as a wonderful dirt-cheap mic. It is an SM58 clone and surprisingly good for the price. It sounds better than many more expensive mics when used properly.

A lot of how it works for you is going to be different seeing your use case is so uncommon. Low levels are simply a case of:
a) not enough Gain on the Audio Interface (eg like the EVO4 I recommend) and
b) not boosting/normalizing the recorded audio.

I will say that simply putting a mic in a room and setting a recording to run is likely to give a result that feels nothing like the real thing as you are 'flattening' reality into something that feels very unreal. Explained in here:

Ocen Audio may not be suited to such a long recording OR may need a setting - as may your computer. Audacity is a mile uglier but might be more stable for this. But to be fair, little with assume such a long recording as that stretches computer operating paradigms.

I get the feeling this might be for a (semi) legal thing in which case, one wonders if you might be as well to use either something like a Zoom device which is more likely to be built for such a thing.

As above, for what you’re describing I’d recommend getting hold of a zoom or another field recorder to best fit your needs
