Impulsively picked up IK Total studio for cheap. The modo updates are good and maybe I’ll get around to using tonex some day.

Model 77 is sweet and scratches the cs-80 itch way better than Arturia. Miss mpe though.

On the fence about Acustica Thing.
Sad for Avenger because despite its resource consumption it is a real beast and a top sounding synth.
But agree with you, DS Thorn is a cheap hidden gem.

i definitely went way overboard this year, at least by my own standards

Acoustic Samples - VWinds collection (Flutes, Clarinets, Double Reeds)
Acoustic Samples -VHorns collection (technically i got Saxes at end of last year)
Orchestral Tools - Amber
Sampletekk - TVBO
BFD - Jazz & Funk
Plogue - Chipsynth SFC
Mario Nieto - Harmony Bloom
8dio - Lacrimosa Ultra (w/ Aetheria)
8dio - Deep Quintet Strings
VSL - Studio Upright Bass and Flugelhorn upgrades from VI
AAS - Chromaphone
Schallenberg Engineering - Engine Low Drums
Streamtech Music - Legacy Horn
Goldbaby - Vinyl Drum Machine Collection
trying hard to talk myself out of VSL vouchers and/or Duality Strings FX...

somehow i didn't buy a single effect plugin this entire year, or any hardware either... only virtual instruments and samples.

As to the vouchers, I may be failing to not spend €54 so as to save €50 in order to get the surround and high mics (€99) for Duality Strings FX. (What's in the cart has to exceed the vouchers amount, so here's me looking for something not a lot more than 50 all day.) Actually there are things Studio Brass has the VI does not (also reports of 'better programming/editing') so it's not totally stupid (plus the price will increase by 100% soon, albeit I expect the real EOL for VI will occur after I'm gone.). Guy Bacos is costing me money!

Ah that reminds me, I did get the Studio Flugelhorn upgrade from VI as well. I'd say it's definitely "better" in that it's much easier to navigate and actually use the full(er) extent of it, as far as my needs anyway, in Synchron; VI always felt utterly arcane to me as a "VSL tourist" and self-styled idiot. Similar feeling for the upright bass, it's much more intuitive now. As for any actual sample editing improvements, i can't say, but I'm much happier with the synchron versions personally.

soniccouture ELECTRO-ACOUSTIC
Arturia FX Collectioon V

Nothing. This year I sold few plugins, but did not buy a one. Maybe I am getting too old to buy + learn new plugins and keeping my focus on stock/freeware ones... 🤷🏼‍♂️

Newfangled Audio Saturate.
Very minimal purchases this year. I’m very content and have no GAS.

Post

Smart EQ 4
Atomika
Musio 1
Moog Mf Saturator
UA Ampex ATR-102
Waldorf Microwave-1

Air/Akai MPC hardware compatible:
Drum Synth
Soft Clipper
The Fabric Collection
Jura
MPC Stem Separation
Keys Collection
Mini D
Studio Strings
Jura Chorus
Ring the Alarm
Flex Beat

Upgrades:
Reason 13
transit 2
World Suite 3
Xtreme FX 2
Trash
Altiverb 8
Ableton Live Suite 12

Looking at this it wouldn't be so much if I wasn't trying to feed the MPC and chasing upgrades.

From most reports its resource consumption isn’t too bad usually but it has a serious bug with Apple silicone, at least the m1, where even one instance is unusable. But yeah I’d reconsider it if they ever fix that.

Oh another one I picked up was the Timewarp 2600 which, even though I have the korg 2600, I just love the character of the timewarp.

Too bad about DUNE 3. UAD had something I couldn't resist. And Audiodeluxe threw in a free GForce Axxis. Got Opal, Mini Moog & Polymax. Some nice stuff in there.

Really, you chose opal over dune 3? That's unusual.

Some of it, or a lot of it I prefer now to see in Synchron in the "Studio" version

"Studio" is useful to me owing to the existence of very light footprint FX of rather high quality. Like Chorus/Flange and Rotary, plus the plate reverb is good. I think the first "Synchron-ized" (now Studio) thing I acquired was Plucked Instruments (they only very recently freed the individual parts from the bundle). I had been using the upright bass for a while, and I didn't like how it sounded now. Only recently I learned why: the original recordings have a wider stereo image than the edited new versions, around twice as wide. So there is a utility in the FX, "Widener" now.

But here's the thing: the slot crossfade in the VI Pro interface is 4 x more extensive, ie., there are four patches x 2 in its mixer, than Synchron Player which cannot do more than 1 x 2. So in some cases the matrix you load uses a lot or all of it. Vienna Choir with breath noises, or you can have multiple voice types at the same time, one group can xfade into clusters another going somewhere else. Or the Jazz Drums matrices layers things. You may not expect VSL to go all sound-designy and layer stuff but they really went for it here.

I never did the BF thing before. I went nuts. I was really done spending but they come out with the Duality FX Strings which after Guy Bacos' demo I had to have. Broke AF now.
Orch Tools has a €25 voucher which is more than some things they sell now that they split things up into parts. Not sure how wise "Salu" was to acquire but half price suckered me in.

It chose me. 4 synths for @ $10 per. I'm loving Axxis and am shocked by the CPU usage. Huge pad, huge sound, 7% CPU. Seven. I had to look twice because I didn't think I saw it correctly.
