Here's my track.

Do You Think I'm Michel
https://soundcloud.com/cupcakerob/osc190-vital

note: updated link

I just wanted to have some fun, make a track (it has been years!). So I didn't really dig too deep in Vital. Mostly used presets and didn't bother with TTS.

OS Ubuntu 24.04
DAW Ardour 8.4
Plugins used:
14 x Vital
3 x ACE Compressor
1 x ACE Delay
4 x ACE High/Low Pass filter
1 x ACE Reverb
1 x TAL Filter 2 (for ping pong panning)
1 x TAL Reverb II
2 x X42 Parametric EQ
1 x X42 Digital Peak Limiter

Rules clarifications, please. Sorry, I've never done one of these challenges, and I've done almost no sound design...and I'm starting on Dec 22 lol.

TTWT: I'm allowed to use a start point that is not the beginning, and time with note duration, essentially extracting a word or part of a word...right?

Samples: Can I use the built-in sounds in the free version, e.g. BART?

Wavetables: Can I use free ones, like the Yuli-Yolo Free WT for Vital? Can I make my own? I'm not sure what using them like samples would look like as I'm unfamiliar with wavetable sound design. Doing what I described for TTWT, but for wavetables of other origination, would not be allowed?

Free presets: I don't know of any but assuming there are some available, can I use them?

Welcome to OSC!

TTWT: I'm allowed to use a start point that is not the beginning, and time with note duration, essentially extracting a word or part of a word...right?
- YES

Samples: Can I use the built-in sounds in the free version, e.g. BART?
- YES

Wavetables: Can I use free ones, like the Yuli-Yolo Free WT for Vital?
- YES

Can I make my own? I'm not sure what using them like samples would look like as I'm unfamiliar with wavetable sound design. Doing what I described for TTWT, but for wavetables of other origination, would not be allowed?
- You Can make your own wavetables, Vital has a powerful wavetable editor. You should not base your wavetable creation on imported samples or audio files.

Free presets: I don't know of any but assuming there are some available, can I use them?
- You may use free presets, but beware of any using imported audio/samples, as they are not allowed for this challenge.

Just a quick note to say I have updated my track. TSOM noted that some of the faster runs were overly quantised, and did not feel natural. I have kept the stabs much the same timing wise, but have pushed and pulled the runs and trills as well as changing velocity to make the notes have a more natural feel. Not sure if anyone else will notice the change, but, thanks TSOM, and I have changed the track, maybe more to your liking?

I've seen people sharing free presets in a variety of places, but just off the top of my head: People often share presets on the Vital Discord. You can find a join link here. There are also some banks shared here on KVR.

Welcome!

About free presets: You can even look into the Vital forum, https://forum.vital.audio/. The time I was active there, there was a lively exchange of presets. There were even some nice people starting "free preset collection" threads currating free presets that were spread all over the place in different threads... an older one from 2021 ... time flies: https://forum.vital.audio/t/december-20 ... ad/8491/12

BTW: Here's something that Vital can do due to it's audio rate LFOS: https://forum.vital.audio/t/patch-how-t ... patch/4091. You can splice arbitrary waveforms into a single cycle, like you can add white noise to 1/3 of a saw single cycle ...

And here's a nice collab between OSCer SeBaer and me ... I started a kraftwerk we are the robots patch which he took over, improved and brought to perfection ... https://forum.vital.audio/t/january-202 ... ?u=peter.h You have to actualy go through the thrad to find his final result...

Short of Synth1 it's probably the most preseted synth. But then there will be tons of crap to work through. Eric Bowman on youtube does very good sound design with it. Lots of good presets shared early in the month on the discord: https://discord.gg/3DjjsuWS

Hello everybody!
How's it going? Hope the best!

I heard a song and two chords was fixed in my mind for days! I started work around those in a latin feel and this is the result! Hope you like it!
I dedicated the track to that natural wonder that is trees...i live surrounded by them and i love them!

Finally, I want to wish you all the best wishes for Christmas and a new year of peace and serenity for you and your loved ones.
