HoRNet wrote: Mon Apr 22, 2024 10:08 am it may be, the display in the VU meter is rounded to 0.1 dB but internally it goes to full 64bit resolution, when nulled the residual it should not be enough to worry but if you want absolute precision I suggest you freeze the track after applying the VU meter to free up cpu instead of relying on the info shown on the UI which is rounded.

Thanks for the reply.

I did the same same test with mvMeter2. I used it to set the gain with its matching feature (-5.8dB), on a duplicate track, -5.8dB was manually adjust as mvmeter2, it did null (even with +24 dB of gain added on the 2 bus). Just saying.............

Hornet VU Meter could be used to calculate the amount of gain and use this, along with a trim plugin, to adjust manually.

I used it (with a preset of mine, not with the factory preset) side by side with famous softwares like Gullfoss, Zynaptiq UnChirp, FabFilter Pro-Q3 and Melda MSpectralDynamics, combined with them, with very good results in making the middle range much clearer, and I found it to be in the same league as the others, honestly. The best HoRNet plug-in, for me.
The Spaces reverb is not good, though, probably accurate for scientific modelling of a perfectly rectangular reflective room, but not musical and with a lot of comb filtering sound (after all, nobody likes to use perfectly rectangular reflective rooms in the real life, for good reasons).
I like also AutoGain Pro (a rival of Melda MAutoVolume, but AutoGain Pro writes the automation data, which can be useful) and Harmonics (a rival of Melda MCharacter, and this time I prefer the latter).
Are you saying it is as good as Gullfoss or you use it in conjunction with it?

what is the difference between the HoRNet VU Meter MK4 and Normalizer when in the recording process?

I've not been using it for a long time, now, but, the last time I did it, it was in conjunction with the others I mentioned, including Gullfoss, in a sort of plugin chain. I wrote the details down, but they are on my computer in my other house, so I will not be able to find my note in these days. However, though that plugin chain was made to perfect the timbre of the final result according to my taste, I also remember that a remarkable and very useful result could also be reached just with Hornet 31 only, alone.
