The big draw for me from the ren series is rbass and rvox. The former idk another plugin that does that, at least not easily; and the latter for ease of use and good sound.
As for FF it's Pro-L and Pro-C I use most. And Pro-R.

Rbass is adding harmonics higher up. There's definitely other plugs that do that now.nusound mind wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 6:40 pm The big draw for me from the ren series is rbass and rvox. These plugins, like soundtoys, were ahead of their time. But their time was long ago. There's definitely things that do the same thing different and/or better now. Doesn't mean those tools are bad, just that they aren't "special" anymore - beyond their timing and impact on the market, of course.
Tools from long ago get used a lot by people using them long ago that liked them and continue using them. This doesn't somehow mean old tools are automatically better, just prone to nostalgia and habit. Popular tools widely used may become standards. But standards are not laws of the universe, and the universe continues to evolve.

wait. what? the FF plugins are awesome right now. it's not like the parameters of EQ, compression have changed. and it's hysterical to consider using the Q4, for example, as 'nostalgic'.martinjuenke wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 10:14 pmBest description of Fabfilter I've read.vitocorleone123 wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 6:48 pm

Long-time owner and user of both and I own all of the FF plugins. I agree about FF being clean and RenMaxx being warm/colored. The RenMaxx bundle was the first Waves bundle I purchased, probably 15 years ago and I used them religiously for many years, but then I sorta stopped using them for some reason about 7-8 years ago in favor of some newer plugins. It wasn’t until they got the facelift a few years ago that I rediscovered them and realized that, not only do they hold their own against newer plugins, they’re just fantastic plugins regardless of their age. I’m currently finishing a new song that has RenMaxx and Fabfilter plugins all over it, especially on the lead and harmony vocals.gelly-vapor wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 6:24 pm fabfilter plugins are clean , Renaissance plugins are warm.i still think rennaissance plugin are the best plugins ever created.

Well, no other plugin does it the way RBass does, though, tried them all, I dare say RBass is a magic weapon, maybe one of the best plugins ever been created.vitocorleone123 wrote: Tue Dec 24, 2024 6:48 pmRbass is adding harmonics higher up. Waves Renaissance is a treasure.
Whereas Fabfilter is just another visual option/choice in addition to my Reaper stock plugins.
80% Reaeq, 20% ProQ whenever I want clean eq.

Fab filter bundle is probably the best all in one mixing / mastering bundle out there in terms of sheer functionality and workflow
On the other hand with the right sale you can prob get the Renn bundle for 1/10th the cost
Both are good choices, can’t go wrong

For those curious about RenEQ, you can use the free legacy/unsupported Toneboosters EQ v3 with the Shelf 2 and Digital Bell 2 filters for the same curves (on a different q scale).
Funnily enough Toneboosters went in a more FF-inspired direction for version 4, and dropped these curves.
