Discovered that it was trivial to reverse the connectors in my XLR patch-bay so that some could convert female to male from the front panel. For those of you re-wiring the hardware studio, I feel your pain right now.

I got tired of trying to reinstall from scratch, so I tried reverting to my backup --which failed!!!!
So I tried again, and again, and again, and again, and finally the backup worked.
This is good because I've implemented a lot of optimizations and fixes and upgrades and customizations over the months.
So now I'm back to my reliable system with too many VST's installed.
but for real...
Later I'm going to try and start more acoustical recordings with a field recorder.
I think I'm going to start performing instead of programming rhythms.

watched some FL Studio tutorial videos.
learned how to auto-quantize on FL Studio.
made some rhythms in LMMS.
made some rhythms in FL Studio.
realised that I need to clear out some lame audio samples.

Got my new mid/side mastering setup finished. Finally mastered the track that I started working on a year ago
CrimsonWarlock aka TechnoGremlin, Moved to Reason and Rack Extensions exclusively (from Reaper and VSTs) several years ago.

watched a good Andrew Huang video about music variety.
wondered why the hell I can't concentrate and why I'm not making music
continued to plan how to purge my DAW of unneeded stuff.

Yes, but, purging is the ugly step-sister of acquiring. You're expending energy thinking about consumer choices rather than making music. Not trying to be mean, just helpful, I might be failing at that.mjolnir wrote: Thu Dec 26, 2024 5:24 am watched a good Andrew Huang video about music variety.

Moved some modules into the new temporary modular case while I work on the big rig. Moved more gear into place. Should be making noise again by the end of the weekend.

thanks for trying to help. I did decide to postpone any purchases.ghettosynth wrote: Thu Dec 26, 2024 12:59 pmYes, but, purging is the ugly step-sister of acquiring. But the main reason for my musical problems is that i have some neurological health issues is why I can't concentrate on music. When I say that i can't concentrate on music I mean I REALLY have difficulty concentrating and get nothing done. It's partially memory problems too.
And I really have too many plugins on my Linux system:
Yabridge reports: "Finished setting up 248 plugins (0 new), skipped 14 non-plugin .dll files"
And then when I'm browsing my instruments in Reaper, I can only remember about 5 out of 48 instruments.
Although, some of them are duplicates.
Anyways....
I got some more FL Studio patterns rendered to WAV today.
I'm gradually making a collection of Rhythms to put into tunes.
It's about the least I can do.
But I'm happy because I made an old-school industrial rhythm that really might work today.

Changed the strings on main acoustic guitar without any injury to me or said axe. Result.

today was a better day.
* deleted some buggy demos
* remembered some musical tune structure ideas i had about 1&1/2 years ago.
* decided to jot some ideas down on paper. (stuff to sample, key sounds, etc)
* deleted a bunch of computer clutter and regained a few Gigabytes.
* converted my entire computer jukebox into MP3 format -- compatible with my portable player (no more WV, OGG, WAV, FLAC, M4A, MP4, MKV)
I got this new plan to just go for it and delete nearly all of my VSTs and switch to using mostly samples.
After that, I'll add back just a few VSTi's maybe. or maybe NOT.
If I switch to hardware, I can just import my sample libraries if I do it right.
In the meantime, i'm working on a paradigm to mimick an expensive hardware drum machine and pretend like I don't even have a computer.
As long as I can work with a sample playback engine that has nice filters and envelopes, then i'm okay.
For starters, short circuit has that, so maybe I'm good.
Hopefully I'm off to a good start for 2025.

Cleaned and reorganized the studio, made some presets, and basically just made some overdue improvements in ergonomics and workflow. Now, it’s time to finish a song, finish a video, and get a new song idea or two going…
Logic Pro | LUNA Pro | OB-X8 | Prophet 6 | OB-6 | Trigon 6 | Rev2 | TEO-5 | Pro 3 | SE-1X | Minitaur | Integra-7 | TR-1000 | Analog RYTM mk2 | Digitakt 2 | TD-3 MO | TD-3 | Maschine+

Lots of tinkering and ending up with a bunch of disparate loops that probably won’t play well together. Ho hum.

i mostly finished clearing out my DAW of unneeded stuff.
After that I demoed some new drum samples in Hydrogen and LMMS and it's working out okay.
Also, while showing a friend how I use REAPER I accidentally realised how to get some neuro bass sounds with automation of Reaper's EQ.
This whole time I'd been trying to find a free plugin to get those sounds, when all I needed to do was just wiggle the mouse in the EQ page while in automation write mode, and then switch back to trim mode.
Now I'm gonna try and get a nice variety of dirty reese sounds to play with later.
I'm totally a newbie at this type of stuff, but I think I might get better tunes out of neuro basses, ambient pads, and industrial / breakbeat drums.
P.S.-I got wine-staging downgraded and held indefinately so that Yabridge will still function. So I got my broken Windows VSTs back! (9.21 <-- 9.22);it's a wine problem with Wayland.
