So i had a writers block for some time now and decided to uninstall a lot of shit to see if something happens, it did, less stuff more creativity, it is like magic, you use only stuff you like and you are familiar with and no more paralysis from endless options.
It is hobby for me that i love and i dont need much, i am not making very complex and wild stuff anyway, i dont want hard to make, i want easy and to have fun, and less is more for that.
Please consider doing the same to be happy :?

Well I would like to give you 100 thumbs-up for this discovery... YES! with less options you use your time more efficiently & you KNOW how to get the BEST out of the LEAST... The challenge is more enticing for such workflow... Too much garbage in so many new DAWs & plugs means learning shit all over again who lives long enough for that...

You are not alone either I have many threads over here-

https://warmplace.ru/forum/viewforum.php?f=21

Mostly about how to get the most out of meager apps & discovering 'workarounds' in natural mechanical fashion... My AXS thread now surpassing 828,000 views so there is interest aplenty... I use plugins for making alot of samples but not so much for composing... This is why there was so much music output in the old days because of more straightforward workflow with LESS OPTIONS!

This is inspirational. Thanks
I'm also in the process of reducing my DAW computer setup.
It's just become too much of TOO MUCH of what I can't remember, can't understand, and MAYBE could use.

Last night I started reinstalling my whole entire system.
This time I hope to do it right. Wish me luck.

For me, this whole sentiment also applies to my DAW software. I used Reaper or over a decade, and finally realized that the sheer number of options to do everything and then some, were actually holding me back. Now I'm using Reason, and while there is a lot of discussion about all the things that are seemingly missing in Reason, I actually like it that it isn't bloated with a million options and functions, and instead does the fundamental DAW functions extremely well. It makes me focus on the music making process instead of 'how to do things' in the software.

As for fewer plugins, I have close to 500 rack extensions :hyper: , so that is still an issue. I already uninstalled a bunch (the Reason companion makes that a lot easier), and when I install R13 I will have a device tag to hide even more stuff.
CrimsonWarlock aka TechnoGremlin, Moved to Reason and Rack Extensions exclusively (from Reaper and VSTs) several years ago.

Wanna sell something?

HaHA!... Someone stops by who does not wish to 'reduce'... Opinions vary I guess but I find that those who wish to 'reduce down as much as possible' have seen the light... It's probably easier for me as I use XP only so older, simpler sequencers & trackers are aplenty if not on the net then on EBAY... I have seen this elsewhere before too somebody was fedf up with current Reason & was doing nice tracks in-

They also have a ProTracker clone if you wish to try only FOUR tracks-

https://16-bits.org/ft2.php

That's an updated FT2 clone & it's so updated it won't work on XP anymore...LOL!

Not my cuppo tea anyway but glad there is alternatives for all...

Yea, I got quite a number of cool DAWs maybe older but capable but still, STILL whenever I open AXS I get inspired, the synth still sounds great, the retro design I get hooked on & it's 'just enough'... No, there ain't no big 'fat sounds' but much music out there is not 'fat' yet it's good-

Remains a CRASH-FREE environment I kid you not-

This next one most current, Taron thought it was 'sweet'-

https://alonetone.com/TalkOrBell/tracks/axs-jazzmonger

Those no further process but one CAN export each track out separate by muting all others then bring it in to multi-track & apply whatever but I kept it pure AXS...

Current Reaper still works in XP & I don't find it that hard to use but there's ALOT in the way... Making Waves is still selling which is very cool but VST scanning is bunk but I care not only need a few plus one can drag a sample onto a track & get started...

I much like finding new ways for old sequencers one thing I don't like about most old trackers is interpolating pattern FX commands it's a 'ramp up' or 'ramp down' basically creating a sawtooth curve... I have done a 'sawtooth curve ON a sawtooth curve' to soften up but recently found THIS way of applying a drawn curve to AXS command I just hafta hit 'play' at the right moment whilst holding the CAPS-LOCK key down...done>>>

Did the same. Very liberating. Culled around seven instrument plugins. Older versions with high upgrade fees went first. I've decided that unless I absolutely love the plugin, the upgrade price has to be competitive or I'll no longer commit to using it. Especially if the plugin is NFR. I'm down to about five or six instruments now and it will be one in, one out from here on in. Now I have to start on my sample library. That will be more difficult. Particularly drum samples.

take care that you now dont start to develop GPS.... gear disposal syndrome. it could end up bad!

seriously though: i did the same and am really happy with my very basic, but cool setup. :)

edit: if anyone who reduced their tools to a lower number wants to post a list, please do..would be interesting to see what has survived for you.

(ill post mine too as soon as im back on my computer)

It refuses description, allowing only the vague approach of adjectives: dark, light, raw, angelic. Who or what is making these noises? Where are they coming from and what do they point to? What kind of entity can leave such a troubling sonic remnant?

In 2025 I will only be using Logic Pro and a free scope plugin :tu:

I'm definitely in the process of simplifying and selling off some plugins. I use Logic Pro, and it was foolish of me not to dig deeper into their stock plugins. Instead I bought a bunch of 3rd party stuff, some of which is very good, but not so good when it comes time to upgrade my Mac—which requires a paid upgrade for certain plugins (Waves). A good lesson... I've learned that I thrive in simplicity.
