Do you ever hear someone's music and think what a rank amateur you are?

If you distribute to Apple Music now they are requiring credits for performers. I think they are trying to root out the AI stuff.

heard pink floyd's song "us and them" this morning
there were many other songs before that, that was on
i have roughly about the same amount of songs in my mp3 collection
that i have in my vst plugins collection
10 thousand +
anyways, foobar2000 plays these songs randomly in the morning
for an hour
to wake me up
anyways, the other bands's songs that played before "us and them"
well, they seemed like rank amateurs
and i'm like
"is it even really subjective how good dark side of the moon is"

Problem with that is we all use the same tools nowadays. In the old days you could at least comfort yourself with that you didn't have a Fairlight, that's why your music sucks. Not that it was true then but the option was there. Nowadays not so much.

A friend of mine once joked that if I tried to copy myself it wouldn’t sound remotely like me. That’s how bad any attempt I’ve made to copy a “sound” has been.
I consider my songs and productions to be nothing more than demos at best. But I also understand that each of us have influences and styles that are unique. Yes, a good producer could come in and drive me to sound a certain way especially if they bring in other musicians to play everything. Then bring in a good singer and someone to rewrite the songs.
But I have a style and that just how it is. I can’t escape my influences.
