EDM class?

I know it sounds a bit silly but is there a class, course or document package that would cover all of the EDM production techniques?

I mean the things you just need to make your piece sound believable - like for example "ducking reverb with tail cutting in the next transient". Hunting knowledge in that area is like running after breadcrumbs and kills all the creativity. I could research and figure it all by myself but I will be 80 before I get it all

This kind of package would be worth paying for I believe.

If you’re looking for a one-stop shop kinda place where you can get up to a professional level on all aspects of producing EDM (production, mixing, mastering, networking, etc.), I can’t recommend the Hyperbits Masterclass enough. I took it during spring 2018. It’s a super deep 8-week masterclass where you get tons of recorded material on a different subject each week, and then you have a couple live sessions each week with the teachers where you can discuss the material and ask questions. You also get homework and a dedicated FB group where you can talk production stuff with the teachers and all other students who are taking the course at the same time as you are.

I’m mentioning it because I noticed what you said about “this kind of package would be worth paying for”. The masterclass is not cheap, and I definitely thought it many times over before I finally decided to take the plunge and sign up. But I don’t regret it one bit. I learned a ton, my production speed and quality improved ridiculously last year, and I met many awesome producers who I’ve become buddies with and I still talk to this day.

At the beginning of 2018 I was in the same spot that you are, watching tons of Youtube videos and trying to put it all together from these separate bread crumbs. I can’t speak for all other educational material out there, but I even took Armin and Deadmau5’ Masterclasses and found them to be underwhelming and pretty superficial. Motivating and fun to watch for sure, but they didn’t do much for my production process.

Anyway, like I said, I really had to think about it before I signed up for this one. I even took one of his smaller Start To Finish courses first just to see if he was legit. Now he has much more free material than he did back then, so it’s easier to see for yourself whether you like his teaching or not. I’ll share some of my fave free articles:

Stay away from the Hyperbits Masterclass!

I have had a deeply disappointing experience with the Hyperbits Masterclass. First and foremost, the course is outrageously overpriced for what it offers - charging a premium for content that can easily be found online for free or through much cheaper alternatives. I was expecting unique insights or advanced techniques, but instead most of the material felt recycled and overly basic given the hefty price tag. To make matters worse, they completely failed to honour their 14-day money-back guarantee. When I asked for a refund, they claimed that the 14 days were calculated to the hour (336 hours from purchase), rather than honouring it until the end of the 14th day, as any reasonable policy would. This felt like a deliberate and unfair loophole to deny refunds. Your customer service was dismissive and unhelpful, leaving me feeling cheated and frustrated. I regret spending so much money on this course and would strongly advise others to look elsewhere for music production training. There are far better resources out there that don't leave you feeling ripped off.

I took it some years ago when it was still live. It got a lot more expensive since then I think. The FB group/community went dead soon after. There is still a discord group which is a ground fpr active students to exchange but for alumnis its worthless. A real connection to the teachers was never there to be honest and one half baked 1 on 1 session was rather worthless. Even tho I have to say I learned a lot about mixing and mastering and some ground rules for music making I have to admit that you can learn the same for free. However I needed a structured way to learn those things without me finding it on the web first so to me it wastnt a waste of money. I also need to admit that nowadays it feels the creators "optimized" the way the class works for them to save time and effort for maximum gains in term of maximal money and minimal interaction.
(Please correct me if Im wrong).

tl;dr: It helps somewhat and the money was worth it to me but it could be better spent.

If you are a bloody beginner I can recommend EDMprod foundations.

And I hear good things about Cosmic Academy. They have a lot more interaction and a more extensive bootcamp and moreover an active community and weekly feedback/office hours for a lifelong term (in contrast to hyperbits, Inwasnt allowed to join office hours as alumni, just rewatch the old ones).
I cant provide details since I didnt took it but its a lot more expensive but most people say that alone the community it worth the money.
Maybe someone here who took it could provide more detail.

While I know that EDM tends to rely lots (too much IMO) on production hacks like ducking (side chaining) and BPM sync it is still built around the same Western Harmony set so why not start from there so you have music that works.

Then, and only then, start adding mixing hacks when they serve the Scene & Story. This saves you from getting the cart before the horse and suffering the inevitable trainwreck :-O

If you lack patience you can try this other set of videos made rather randomly from prompts given to me by the employer. I put the videos into a vaguely sensible order but the link before which is all about notes is far more likely to lead to good results (if you let it).
