Like mentioned. If you want to place a signal far deep in the room then the whole signal should be dark b/c human perception identifies bright signals as near and dark signals as far naturally. Plus: Don't pan the signal(s) extremely left or right, more to the center, as much as possible.

But I think what you are generally trying to achieve isn't what the Vintage Verb does best. Maybe test the ARVerb Room plugin. Only 19EUR till January 5th 2025. But try it first! It helps me a lot by achieving a virtual guitar amp in the room situation. :wink:

What you describe seems to me the result of Diffusion when the taps stop being audible and it becomes a whhaaa of sound. Valhalla are striking in the diffusion they generate. You love that thing or you do not. I am impressed - until I try to use it in a mix. Not just with Valhalla but all reverbs.

The method I use is reflections. This is by creating a collection of echoes that are spaced to suit the needs of the "room " being created. In solo those taps may seem absurd, but with the balance of the mix you can get really large and deep spaces with none of that shaaahhhh thing that, to me, causes delamination (separates the sound from the space).

Modulation is an important part of achieving depth. Yes, it reduces ringing, but the chorusing/phasing created from modulating the echo taps is just as important. In the later part of this video, I show how I make the kind of reverbs that I use for client & personal music. Some DAWs make this easier than others. If you want a started unit then Hz Multiplier (free) is a great starting point.

You can use "tonal reverb" to reduce the sparkliness caused by the transients.
Add a compressor in front of reverb. Take a copy of dry signal and emphasize transients using a transient shaper. Then route that transient signal to sidechain of the compressor.

In sonogram view, see how the inharmonic/atonal "dust" or noise is removed from the reverb tail when the compressor is on.
