At least the UAD one is even nicely less over @JRR with the right code... (plus they have other UAD bundles on sale too)

UAD malware vs IK bloatware. no matter who wins, you lose. buy now :?

Post

wanted to try the free version of luna, immediately regretted it as the UA Connect app is malware.

now, after i uninstalled the mess, i get an error message in my Startup Apps list on Windows 11:

I was going to warn people. I bought some UAD stuff and the website I bought it on first didn't tell me it is iLok. Okay, so I go to UAD and it installs UAD Connect. Great. Then it installs iLok. It found my old account, no problem there. Then, it says I have 2 choices: iLok Cloud or USB. I don't have a USB. I had iLok stuff from Air, but the licenses were stored on my machine. I ask UAD why they can't be stored on my computer. Answer: They just can't.
So every time I want to audition a synth, and I pull up the UAD stuff. many things pop up. UA Connect pops up. Then iLok pops up, and I'm usually not online.
It just seems arbitrary and random that 'some' licenses can be stored on a machine and some can't.

Post

All the free ones can and all the paid for ones can't.

Everyone has their own preferences but the cloud version (must be online to use) is the iLok I avoid.

That is completely up to the developer to decide what method they use. The Cloud part of the name should have clued you in that you need to be online to use the plugin. Otherwise, you buy the $50 dongle and don't ever worry about it.

The ATR-102 and the LA-2A are favorites of mine but I feel like I've seen almost all the others in some other $50 UAD bundle or given away when you buy their hardware.

But this Virtual API Desk and virtual AMP cloner are the two hottest products in the DAW industry. The tech was unheard of just 15 years ago. We can now enjoy realistic AMP profiles into realistic analog console sims, the full package for $99 bucks...Amazing.

It's not their products but the utter disdain that they treat their customers with.

A couple of months ago I did a "Custom Bundle of 3 for $249" to get the 3 amps. Shortly thereafter, I noticed I was a dumbass and could've upgraded my Signature Collection for $199 and get those 3 amps and a bunch of extra plugins I didn't have yet. I emailed support. They refunded me the $249 no questions asked so I could buy the Signature upgrade for $199.

Didn't feel like disdain for their customers to me.

Do people not like their Cloud or Dongle copy protection approach, along with the UA Connect app? Sure. Those are perfectly valid things to be annoyed by. But I like this new UA with regular sales, and they don't come across to me as cheapskates while doing it.

Just my two cents.
