I'm running a 7950x here. I guess they're intended to run hot but I'm still spooked by numbers like 85c. I tried turning the fan speed up in BIOS ('performance' mode), and I started getting bluescreen crashes. (though this did reduce temp to move like 67c+) Since reverting to 'silent' mode, I haven't seen another crash.

Has anyone seen this? Any suggestions?

- Make sure to you are using the latest BIOS.

- IF you want the system to be silent, enable Eco Mode.

- If the new BIOS does not already have Eco Mode profiles, create your own.

Thanks. I'll read through through this stuff.

I'm not too up to date on any of this. Am I right that AMD cpus will TRY to run at 95c? They'll push the clock speed until it gets to 95c and then run this as it's 'goal' temperature?

I mean, still weird that turning the fan speed up results in a bluescreen.. but if I don't need to worry about 87-90c, then I won't worry about it. I mean I'll TRY to not worry about it. :)

Must be a BIOS bug. Did you observe fan speed while running?

Yes it did run faster.

I can't be 100% sure that the bluescreen is related to the fan speed.. but it seems this way so far.

Doesn't a bluescreen carry an error message anymore? I haven't seen one in a long time.

Maybe the BIOS sets overclocking automatically when you turn on fan mode performance?

It rebooted before I could read it. I've now turned off autoreboot but no BSOD yet. When I get home I'll try turning it up again and I'll report back.
There are a few conversations about this online, but no solid info otherwise. There has been a BIOS update recently so I might do that also. (as per Pictus above)

If your fan is whizzing hard and your CPU is still reporting as hot, did you ever think to check your cooler is still properly seated and has good quality thermal paste ?

As I understand it coolers should be and re-seated periodically and new thermal paste applied every 3-4 years for optimum cooling.

Your max temp is supposed to be 95C, so you are hot but within limits. I would check your cooler is working properly unless you are a running a very heavy multicore CPU session.

So my fan was never actually running fast. It was all running fine at it's quietest setting. Turning this setting up at would result in a bluescreen. A cooler CPU yes, but along with BSOD.

I built it. Properly, I'd say.. but I've made mistakes in the past.

I may have resolved this by the way.
A) I updated to the latest BIOS. (I did update before the build but there have been two updates since)
B) The BSOD message was Hypervisor Error. I guess this could mean a few things but virtualization is one possibility. So I've turned SVM off in bios.

With the fan set to 'performance', I've had it running for 2-3 hours now without any errors. I suppose I should have tested one setting change at a time so I had a better idea of the issue, but if it's fixed, I don't care. :) CPU temp is hovering around 60-65 now.
Still.. as I read it, this CPU is designed with 95 as a target temp. This page is a bit of a read, hah. I haven't yet digested it fully:

Normally fan speed is linked with core temp. (though I edit this as I saw that processor seems to run hot intentionally)
