April of 2024, Fantom EX launch, which adds ACB support to the Fantom. So they’ve went in the opposite direction to what you’re suggesting. The response, to the Zenology JX8P, might’ve been a factor. IE Enough users appear to want detailed ACB models over “improved polyphony” ;)

But you’re certainly right to be wary, especially when they’re still refusing to issue anything but temporary 30 day activations even for “Lifetime” licenses. That is not acceptable and, at this point, is surely a factor hindering sales numbers. The question is if they’re making enough, on rentals, not to care. (They might want to look at how many aren’t on Play4Life subs before they convince themselves too much about the popularity of renting.)

Regarding plugin support - Anything also supported, by current Roland hardware, will likely be fine for at least a few years. It’s the plugins, for which that doesn’t apply, where the question marks appear. Things which didn’t get the “v2” file browser update.

If users see some plugins getting attention, whilst others go ignored, it’s natural they’ll draw conclusions if that situation persists. And it has, for nearly 18 months now. Meaning it may be wise to exercise some caution buying anything, which hasn’t been given a V2 browser update, until Roland shows it intends to support those plugins to the same level..

I would put the SRX expansions and the JV1080 and XV5080 into that camp

I have no doubt that eventually they will be dropped in favor of Zenology skinned versions or whatever is replacing that
I don't think they would do that since you can already buy the EXZ which is The Zenology Pro SRX Format.
What is great with Zenology Pro vs The JV, XV and the single SRX Plugins is that you have everything in one plugin and the EXZ are also much cheaper costing 19.99 Each.

The Zen Pro does cost a bit more but it has more sounds and drumkits and a Subtractive synth that also has a FM engine built in.

IF you buy a few of the single Rompler plugins you might End up close to the price of Zenology Pro and the Bonus with getting Zen Pro is that it is still supported since you can't get a P4L Key for it so you either have to buy a lifetime key or keep subscribing to use it.

The other issue that i agree with is that as you pointed out is that the JV, XV and the SRX plugins are not getting any support.

It has been this way for years now and they seem more like a Dump and forget Plugins just to keep the interest of subscribing alive.

That's exactly why they will do that

Currently they have the JV1080 and XV5080 and all the SRX cards as separate plugins. They however all have the exact same synth engine and are infact the same exact plugin only with different samples and presets

They can pull the plug on those at anytime and just sell "model expansion" pack versions of Zenology and call it a JV1080 or an XV5080 or any of the SRX expansions. These would be separate plugins that are just Zenology with a different skin and limited sample sets

Why maintain the JV1080/XV5080/SRX plugins when you can drop support for them and just have Zenology based plugins?

Keep in mind they already did exactly this with the JD-800 plugin. It's just Zenology with a different skin and limited sample set and effects

Doing this anyone with a lifetime key for any of the JV/XV/SRX would find them useless as just like with Sound Canvas they will kill further development, updates, etc

I get why they did it with the JD-800 since that has been a very popular request and was already created as a Zenology Pro Model Expansion so they only had to remove some samples and code and give it a new gui.

The JV, XV and the SRX are already on the market so i don't think they will bother to make them as Zenology Plugins since they are already on sale as PCM Extensions for the Zen Pro.

People have asked for the D-50 for Zenology Pro and it is still not released since they already have the DCB Version which is the same technology used for the JV, XV and the SRX plugins.

People have asked for a JX-8P after it was released for Zen Pro but they don't want the Zen/ABM version but a ACB Version and they still haven't released either of them when they could have already released the ABM Version just like they did with the JD-800.

So who knows what direction The Cloud Team will take since they Never give us any useful information or Honest hints on upcoming Products or what they decide to Discontinue in the near future.

But I am not talking about what is in the market now, I am talking about what will be in the market in the future

Will Roland continue to develop them? Or will they just let them remain stagnant until they disappear like they did Sound Canvas?

As someone with a lifetime key of Sound Canvas I am rather pissed about that

I think moving forward the JV/XV/SRX plugins are the most endangered, as Roland is not going to develop them anymore

The focus has shifted to milking exiting customers who are still subscribed and that's exactly why nobody should support subscriptions because once a company has a constant stream of money for nothing they have no incentive to do develop/fix anything what we can see clearly here. I've cancelled my subscription.
I've got a load of synths on the loyalty program so It's simply not worth continuing my subscription.

Same here + I also have the Zen Pro fully loaded with synth models, JD-800 and the SRX banks.
I don't have anything from the cloud installed because of the annoying 30 day limit so I use my Various Zen Core Hardware instead and similar plugins from other companies.

If those had been released before the Cloud I would have bought those instead and I will only re-Install and start supporting the Cloud Eco system again the day when they gives us a true offline Copy protection.

Not interested in a copy protection app that takes up 2+ GB of space while sending data left and right over the net with endless updates and a 30 day limit and that constantly need bug fixes and introduces new bugs very often.

Don't forget killing off Sound Canvas and not fixing RCM

E.T. Phone Home

But hey Roland's employee did say right here in this forum a year ago that "tons" of stuff was coming out by the end of the year. Which year was not specified so just 12 more months guys

I do however want to thank Roland Cloud however for their ineptitude. In the late 1990s and early 2000s I never gave the Korg Triton much thought because of my love for the JV/XV Synths I owned. But now thanks to RCM the Triton plugin has become one of my favorite plugins, it doesn't phone home and has all the waveforms/samples from all the expansions included

"30 major updates"

I wonder which plugins received major updates? Maybe those were for others besides the two I have. :?

:tu: They could really learn a thing or two (or 3 or 4) from Korg.

That was for the Cloud Manager (after the f*cked it up) as far as I can tell.
