VPS Effects Still Worth It In 2025? (edit: not really)

Topic. Since they dropped the e-licenser, are now resizable and they're currently 50% off I was wondering if there's something special in there that's worth getting.
edit: Ok, feel free to still post opinions if you want but for me the choice is made.

Imo no. They're basic, outdated compared to what's standard now (rather comparable to basic DAW factory plugins), and havn't got any love for years (similarily to their other plugins). Avenger is their cash-cow, that's what they focus on. My advice is: don't buy into dead plugins and given their history, don't buy into them as a company.

Ok, make sense. Thanks. I love Avenger and there's some great effects in it.

Last time (when there was an Avenger trial available at all
) I've tried it and the effects were not the ones sold as VPS bundles. There were some similar but more modern ones in Avenger and some "new" ones. So I don't think you're missing out on something.

Depends on the price point. Some of the stuff in the FX Bundle 2 are still quite good, but if you've been making music a long time I'd guess you have something as good or better. The UI and workflow were really good for their time, but practically everything has been influenced by the fabfilter, unfiltered audio, Serum, etc. style of UI and the standard ergonomics for plugins has risen.
Glitch Bitch is still pretty cool.
Smearshifter, Spectral Q, Time Freeze, Trance Gate. They're kinda like Kilohearts plugins. A little older, a little fancier and more feature rich, but mostly just handy one trick pony creative/sound design focused plugins.

Ok. Supposed after Black Friday I'm almost broke and I have around $100 to spend. Between this and Cableguys Shaperbox 3? (even though they're not exactly the same category)

IMO Shaperbox by a mile.xx JPRacer xx wrote: Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:42 pm Ok. Supposed after Black Friday I'm almost broke and I have around $100 to spend. Between this and Cableguys Shaperbox 3? (even though they're not exactly the same category)
Avenger is phenomenal. My favorite sound design workhorse. VPS effects are good, but not as stand-out as their synths. You can get a LOT of mileage out of shaperbox
Guess it depends what you need though. If you already have another modulation monster like Infiltrator or something, like I said before there are a few gems in the VPS FX 2 bundle. I like Smearshifter, Talkbox, and Spectral Q
Unfortunately I think Glitch Bitch is their best effect and it's sold separately

Thanks! I now own Shaperbox and I'm very happy!

I found their plugs to use way more CPU than other developers, probably not noticeable on a newish machine
