Happy New Year to everyone!

Post

DAW - Ableton Live 11
# of Instances 13
FX used - stock ableton eq8, compressor, and ableton limiter on the 2 buss.

No presets used, made all the sounds from scratch while learning the instrument yesterday
Had issues with it loosing tuning settings, but otherwise fairly stable on windows 10.

edit - I also wanted to challenge myself and didn't use any onboard fx on any of the instances, used the ableton midi delay so I can print the notation.

After a year of dreaming about having time to make some music, I finally found the time to do so.
The funny is, I initially cowardly decided to not enter Vital-featured competition because so many people perfected using this synth. Not me though... I've never used it. Can you believe that?

So I was procrastinating the whole of December to eventually decide, to jump into it 5 days before the end of the month. Yeah.. it didn't help me at all ;)
But it's there. I think it's the quickest-composed and produced song I can remember (maybe except for some Amiga mods). I'm quite proud of myself. Though, there are more-than-bits that can be improved.
I'm uploading it in the form I have it right now. It's possible I'll do some touches here and there before the deadline.

Fun fact: Today, I sent the song to Piotr XTD Bendyk and he came up with the idea of adding vocoded bit (done in Vital). I couldn't resist. Thank you, friend.

Otherwise, all presents done by me except:
* Piano: by Linguae (found on the Internet)
* Moog Pluck, Jupiter Bass, Ceramic: from Vital free presets

BTW: I can see a lot of you who use Reaper make the list of instruments manually. I wrote an extension generating it for you.
Just import this package to ReaPack

Code: Select all

Thanks for the list of instruments utility. Installed and i've ran the action. I've updated my post with the list got.

Here's a little update to my multi-ins Oscilloscope... it's now synced and able to compute a RMS over the sum of each "beat".
In the screenshot you can see two inputs: red a BDR and green a PsyTrance saw. It's overall 1/4 you see, ie. 4 * 1/16 of the PsyTrance thingy and one BDR hit. Additionally to the waveforms I added in orange the RMS for each 1/16 ... as of today it's turned upside down ... me stupid ... coordinate systems ... pah!

It's still very rough code but already now fun and much more stable than the previous version.

BTW: It's fun to see how different the waveforms become if I simply throw a ISOL8 Multiband-Splitter on the PsyTrance bass. Adusting the split frequencies really change the waveform and the sound ... it's might not be obvious at first, but such splitters change the phase of individual frequencies in the spectrum rather drastically ...

Question to Richard: I think that might touch a grey area of the rules ... I think the assumption is that Multiband-Splitter don't do anything themselves soundwise, but that is actualy not true. I think with like 4 or 5 ISOL8 in a row you can change a sound a lot...
What do you think about the use of Multiband-Splitter?

The Vital round is currently at the voting stage - no further entries can be accepted.
The synth for January is U-he Zebralette - it runs to 31st January.

Lot's of really cool submissions!
Finally got around to completing the rough idea posted a couple of weeks ago. Realize that voting is closed but still wanted to share, Vital is a really awesome instrument.

15 Vitals, all sounds from scratch, zero on built in effects, reverbs or delays processing per contest rules. 100% export out of the ableton project with, ableton EQ8 for low cut, Tokyo Dawn ultrasonic, Sonimus N-Console and uad A800. 96khz native, and shut off all oversampling on the instrument.
Tuning is A=444 and a slightly modified Werk3 tuning profile.

I'll be jumping on the Zebralette contest for this month and hopefully able to get something more polished in time.
