I'm intrigued by the Bastl Microgranny 2, and considering getting one in 2025. What's the best way to use one of those, what sort of workflow works best?

It seems, you process and mangle some mono lo-fi samples live with the Microgranny, while recording the output, and then chop up that recording manually to convert it into several musically useful smaller samples for something like Kontakt, or the sampler of your choice? Is that the best use case?

Is anyone here using and loving the Microgranny 2?

yes

no :)

i mean, i'd play it live, and record, but as a live (or live-ish) source.

i think the live 'playing' of it is the fun part, and i want the dynamics and interaction of that as much as possible. if I want something more sequenced and conformed, then it has MIDI... There's an M4L controller for it if you use Live *https://maxforlive.com/library/device/5539/), but the MIDI isnt complex.

it'd be quite good for making sampler food, but it is a sampler, so i use it as-is.

things i do frequently include running it into the audio in of a Korg Electribe ES-1 (as that has the sequenced 'slicer') if I perhaps want to impose a more rhythmic structure on it, or into the GinkoSynthese Sampleslicer module if I want to actually loop it.

I'm thinking about grabbing a small Zoom portable recorder.

I, too, am feeling fiscally cautious for political reasons.

And, same as last year, I have budgeted for the successor to Stylus RMX.
If every KVR member wrote one review a year we'd have 1340 reviews each day!

A Behringer Wave.
Probably a few Toontrack expansions here or there.
That's about all I foresee at present. My gear buying has tapered way off.

Ordered a RYK modular ENVY machine which is a super slick module that can do LFOs, envelopes, random, AND record knob movements for four channels. Also a Befacto output so I can use TRS cables out of the rack.

I caved and just ordered the Joyo pedalboard. I can't beat that clamp system with anything that I can whip up in the garage. I did not order any new pedals though, well, unless you count the "cost of a pizza" IR loader.

Nothing excites me more than the upcoming Behringer LinnDrum clone. First time in years I've placed a preorder on something I haven't heard even a demo of.

On paper it looks like something from Elektron, but I'm not putting my expectations that high :) But even it even comes into the ballpark of a LinnDrum I will be so damn happy. It might be my favourite drum machine of all time.

I would have done the same.
Pretty sure i've got samples from the Lynn drum but I don't know if I have ever used them or not. I'm with him, I don't know this fascination with the past. It's cool to see old gear in good shape, but I've lost the interest in recreations. Other than the guy who is modding an MS-5.

Oh man, you have classic Lynn Drum samples? I have been trying to get my hands on one of these classic babies for a long time.

The SOMA US folks were at the LA Synth Club meet up last night and they had a Harvezi Hazze pedal to demo. That thing sounds really cool.

It covers some of the same territory as the Fuzz Factory that I modded to add an active tone stack but it has a lot more range. I’ll almost certainly be getting one!

My 2p worth response to him is I find the limitations help when making something and I like the idea you could be using kit like your heroes had to make music with. Plus if I am ever in a Goodnight Sweetheart situation and find a back alley into the late 70s/early 80s then I’ve got a head start.

Are you safe?
