It does not provide money for NI.
It is complicated to use for the average user.
It makes more money to make sample-based libraries with a single adjustment button.

Yeah I've never really understand that argument. I presume these days the vast majority of people don't buy individual Reaktor or NI products anyway, but buy Komplete, often in a sale, so how do they know how many of those people bought Komplete because of Reaktor or anything else?

Because there is usage data tracking for every NI product. Number of unique users for each product is known. Since the option is opt out, great majority of people don't ever disable it (NI also knows how many people do disable it, it is not enough to statistically matter).

Except the people who do disable it are probably the ones that use it mostEvilDragon wrote: Tue Jan 07, 2025 4:31 pm Because there is usage data tracking for every NI product. I don't think it's the "vast majority". On the Community forums it was mentioned by someone at NI that tracking is turned on about 55%. And then there's also the people who use NI but aren't always online when making music.EvilDragon wrote: Tue Jan 07, 2025 4:31 pm Because there is usage data tracking for every NI product. Anyway, it's always important to remember the Bezos anecdote about tracking data is bullshit.
I have no doubt that Kontakt is their cash cow. But this is a self-imposed problem. They haven't done shit for Reaktor in 8 years. No wonder no one cares about it.

The irony in all of this is that the reputation for innovation and greatness has dropped like a rock when it comes to NI. Back in the old days when they released something new it used to be big news and it would garner genuine admiration and interest, something you could talk about with colleagues and audio enthusiasts at lunch.. but now it's merely a sigh or a shrug. NI doesn't give a damn any more so neither does the public.
Venture capital will venture capital and it pretty much always ends the same way. When you stop innovating, you stop being relevant. A tale as old as time.
Possibly Reaktor will someday be rediscovered by the general audio public and celebrated as "vintage".

And that's where the challenge lies - continue with being innovative.
Maybe NI were so high up in being innovative back in the day that it backfired.
What's left to do?
Buy out others doing innovative plugs I suppose.
As far as Reaktor, Tim Exile demonstrated well what could be done with it (the Finger and the Mouth) and, well.....it's cool but nothing groundbreaking and that may have taken away any interest in taking the time to learn the damn thing.
Regardless, I'll say It again, NI needs to *combine* their resources into one DAW. It can work (long term).
Akin to Bitwig's Grid, an NI DAW could have Reaktor as its modular feature.
Work on it based on user feedback so it can compete in modern times.
Etc. Etc. Etc.

when you don't keep developing a product, then act "surprised" when people don't use it's tiny interface.... Then there's the whole technical debt thing, and developers important to the product not working for NI etc. anymore. Plus NI have always deprecated products as soon as they see no profit from it, this is a company that attempted to remove the ability to download and instal their older products you paid for FFS.

That's a guess that could go in either direction. We cannot know because they disabled it.aMUSEd wrote: Tue Jan 07, 2025 11:10 pmExcept the people who do disable it are probably the ones that use it mostEvilDragon wrote: Tue Jan 07, 2025 4:31 pm Because there is usage data tracking for every NI product. Does not compute. how does usage data tracking tell you about the motivation for purchase?EvilDragon wrote: Tue Jan 07, 2025 4:31 pm Because there is usage data tracking for every NI product.

Too late now I guess, but I think NI were on the right track when they made a standalone version of Super8 before abandoning it. They should have separated Reaktor into multiple products:
Standalone versions of instruments like Razor, Monark, Super 8 etc. More accessible to people who don’t like to open Reaktor, an easier to handle preset system, CPU savings then it comes to polyphony.
Blocks version with a proper module browser and presets, optimized for front panel patching. Blocks sound amazing but are annoying to use.
Full Reaktor version for builders and people who enjoy ensemble and snapshot nonsense.
