Ilok or no Ilok?

Hello everyone. This question maybe little strange. But it's very interesting to me.
I was created my Ilok account about one year ago. And it's working fine. I got Soundtoys bundle, Soothe, Bloom, Cinematic Rooms, some Softube, Slate free stuff and UAD stuff...
I know that so many disputes regarding Ilok system. I use machine activation mostly.
And I am know about UAD problems. It the reason, why I don't use them with their central system...
I am thinking is it possible to producing and mixing music without Ilok plugins? Seems that most of great plugins on Ilok... don't know alternatives to Soundtoys or Cinematic rooms honestly...
I was tried to minimize centrals as well (like Arturia or waves).
So, does Ilok affect the stability of the system?or working on a computer? Why so many hate Ilok system?

I found out that's not the question. The question should be can you store your licenses on your computer or 'in the Cloud'. Never had a problem with iLok until I got 'Cloud Licenses'. And the company couldn't give me a reason why some of their stuff was Machine based and some Cloud based.

I believe it's the developer of the protected software who decides where you can place your license (hw key, local, cloud). For instance, Cognitone Synfire only accepts hw key.osiris wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2025 2:46 pm I found out that's not the question. No, iLok in itself has no negative effect on the OS or the machine (if it does it's your system, sorry). It's very smooth and it does its thing quickly. If you're going to use the cloud activation you need a really solid wifi connection, when it disconnects your DAW session will be interrupted in a very irritating manner and you have to reconnect. I went from having great wifi to having shite wifi so I finally had to buy the USB key. Which used to be a big honking horror, now they make a small light job. I have around 270 activations on it (many products have multiple licenses bundled). 3 freebies with machine activation.
Oh, and iLok support in the last year and a half has been the most responsive in my experience, ever.

I use iLok with no issues.
I guess I could find some replacements for plugins I use, but not exact matches. Softube and Eventide for instance are some of the brands that I like to use.

I really don't know alternatives to some plugins on Ilok. But many people can do it for sure!

i use both iLok and Waves license on high quality HW keys. then as i travel and i'm on a guest system, i just plug in, if i need to install some fx, i can (usually) do it, and i'm ready to go. i also have a HW key with latest copies of my templates and presets i like to start with, i have them with me.

I know that. Of course it's possible. Some people use just only stock plugins for example. But it's all about time probably.MrJubbly wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2025 8:32 pmThis is the correct answer.FranklyFlawless wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2025 6:31 amYes.Alexander_D wrote: Thu Jan 09, 2025 6:23 am I am thinking is it possible to producing and mixing music without Ilok plugins?
Whci alternatives for Soundtoys bundle for example? Or Cinematic Rooms? Valhalla. Well maybe. It's sounds good but not so good as Cinematic Rooms...

Never had an issue with the key either because I had one with an old version of Nexus. It just took up a USB slot and never had a problem except the problem was the key came with Nexus so it went when I sold it.
