Waveform Pro track display - help!!

The track display when recording exhibits many seconds of no signal before starting to display the incoming signal (waveform). When input stops (either I stop singing or I stop playing instrument) I have to wait to stop recording as the waveform is still being completed in the display. If I stop the recording before the complete waveform is displayed I lose the undisplayed waveform. After I am finished recording the clip I have to trim the blank section before the displayed waveform and then shift the remaining clip to the left to align it with previously recorded tracks. What do I need to do to have the recording waveform display in real time? Thanks for any help offered!
