Hi everyone!

I'm thrilled to announce the release of sosci - a super-realistic software oscilloscope that simulates the look and feel of a real analogue oscilloscope from the 20th century.
Image
Sosci is based on the excellent visualiser over at https://dood.al/oscilloscope/ by Neil Thapen, but rewritten from the ground up.

This means better performance, higher sample rates, more realistic simulations, way more settings to mess with, and more, making this (in my opinion) the best-looking software oscilloscope out there

Some of the standout features are:
  • audio upsampling with realistic artifacts
  • 3 channel brightness (z) input
  • video sharing with Syphon/Spout
  • recording to .mp4
  • presets for real oscilloscopes
You can purchase sosci as a standalone app, and an audio plugin for your favourite DAW, here: https://osci-render.com/sosci/

Or hear more about sosci's features below:

We also have a Discord server for sosci and my other oscilloscope-related plugin, osci-render - now over 500 members strong! https://discord.gg/ekjpQvT68C

Many thanks,
James

The aesthetic is really cool. I don’t usually use an additional oscilloscope if it’s not included as part of a plug-in. But this would be an interesting visualizer with exporting to mp4 for use in a video editor. Thanks for the heads up James!

Good work m8.. looks great! :tu:

Is the one single purchase for either standalone or vst3 plugin.. or both?

Your post seems to say either/or, so I just wanna be sure..

Thanks, and good question, it's both! No separate purchase for one or the other :) I'll update my post.

I appreciate that developers like you are out there James, creating interesting and different audio tools rather than the next Pultec emulation.

Ooo can I play Tempest on it?

Looks awesome!

Done! I just bought it and after a few freezes, it`s now running flawlessly on my Win11-64 laptop (but only after I installed the latest Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable, as you note on your site).

I regret selling my Hitachi Denshi Analog Oscilloscope V-650F (eons ago), but Sosci is mighty fine regardless. I`m now drawing mushrooms and running all my Jerobeam Fenderson (Oscilloscope Music + Remixes) WAVs through it..

Well done m8!

Love the aesthetic. Great work. I'll check it out tomorrow.

Haha thanks! My next escapade is to create a Vectrex emulator using this - so not far off :P

What's a typical use case for this?

More for visualising music and creating music that is designed to look good on an oscilloscope (oscilloscope music)!

Some examples of this kind of music here:

Another great use for Osci-Render (when you enable the audio input) is to use it as a very interesting and unusual effect plugin. Some great distortions to be had, love it on my e-bass.

And one can really paint with sound:

Love it!

Also great for audio-visual work and vj-ing, it can even send out via Spout!
This is visuals created in Bitwig Studio via Osci-Render (that you get in the bundle when buying Sosci), sent to Tooll3 (https://tooll.io) via Spout, further mangled there and encoded to video in realtime.
(In this case the sound for the visuals is not what we hear):

Osci-Render also comes with a Blender plugin to transfer 3D objects so sound/visuals and it also can load images, svgs and even animated gifs...

It also has Lua support for creative coding.

Really amazing package there!  :tu:

Hi

A friend of mine just wants to look at a Waveform like on a classic Oscilloscope.

Is this possible?
