Is Poly D stereo out?
It sounds like you chose a stereo input even though PolyD is mono.
- so pick either left or right channel as input
Other than that I do not know Bitwig, just a general comment....

When you create an input in Bitwig, you can choose stereo or mono, and you chose stereo. Delete that stereo path and make two new mono inputs instead. You may have to also set this up in your audio interface’s control software.

You want to use the HW Instrument, described here:

Just wait until you apply bitwigs modulators to midi ccs for your hardware synth (if its supported). And then once you use hardware instrument and route the audio into Bitwig you can add vst effects to it. You can also use Bitwigs note fx. Basically Bitwig just improves the hardware capabilities and other plugins as well. NO max for live needed (in most cases). Bitwig 6 will hopefully be a big update with a lot of improvements coming.
For setup, use your audio interface as the audio return input. Does your hardware come with a driver to install or is it plug and play compatible? IF you want to set up your hardware as a midi controller (again if supported), you will want to got to settings controllers and add your hardware as a generic midi controller or something listed that fits the description. Once you do that you can select your hardware in the midi input section of the HW instrument.
