I am using my 'new' second-hand 49SL mkII to control things like Pigments.

I assigned two buttons to go up and down the preset list. Works, but it seems all the buttons have an on/off functionality, so I have to press twice to get on step up or down the preset list (only 'on' is seen as an input value, not 'off'). If I use a slider or knob it's hard to just go one step further instead of 10. Is there a smarter way to do this?

I am a bit overwhelmed by all the options and menus and haven't got a lot of experience with controllers beyond simply using a midi keyboard to play notes.

Dont have one, but Ive got a much earlier Novation keyboard.

According to the page 32 of the manual (https://fael-downloads-prod.focusrite.c ... ish107.pdf) the 'mode' of the buttons can be changed, so that's the thing to look at. Investigate 'Normal' versus 'Momentary' I think.

There seems to be a template editor you can download (https://downloads.novationmusic.com/nov ... 49-sl-mkii) , that might be the easiest way to edit the button functionality.

The main knob in the center of the unit has multiple modes, one of which is “Program”, which is dedicated to doing exactly what you want. It’s always worked perfectly for scrolling through presets on my hardware synths (although the Banks mode is hit or miss, depending on the synth).

Also, it's not clear from your post how you are editing the buttons. Editing from the front panel is a PITA. There is a legacy editor available from Novation, but it only works on Windows so you're out of luck if you're a Mac user (like me, although I have an old Dell that I use when I need to edit/create new templates).
