 You're awesome, DSmolken! We love you!

You can do a lot more with SFZ when it comes to true legato, complex vibrato emulation, hi-hat muting etc, but you can't easily put a GUI on your sample library (at least not with the samplers out there right now) and while there's tutorials that go deep down these rabbit holes, there's no friendly 10-minute video that shows how to make an instrument that makes the viewer go "hey, that's not so hard, I could do that".
From a Linux user perspective, what you say is totally on point. Sforzando is only accessible through WINE. There is no native Sforzando. Sfizz is nice, but to my knowledge, it doesn't support the GUI that Sforzando does. This leaves Decent Sampler as the only library player that has a true GUI, while also being Linux native. That, to me is the main differentiator.

Sfz is cool but I think it’s also a bit off to call decent sampler a proprietary format. It’s an open format like sfz is and like bitwig/presonus multisample. Nothing stops other tools from reading and loading or writing decent sampler packs. Some folks may have even done that already….

Who called decent sampler a proprietary format? I looked back through the thread (especially at my own posts :hihi: ), and I didn't see anyone say that it is a proprietary format. :)

EDIT: I went back through the whole thread and ran a search, and found that you were referring to the original poster's comments. I had missed that.

Ha yeah very comment at the start of the thread. On kvr it’s usually 800 pages back and unrelated to the current convo so I totally get you missing it. lol

It's mostly about being able to script your own GUI easily and without any cost (even for commercial libraries). It also can be used on iOS.

There is going to be some shakeup in this thread!!! Today, Plogue just announced Linux versions of all of their plugins, including Sforzando!! Linux users rejoice!! :)

It should be said that both Decent Sampler and Sforzando are excellent samplers,
non-proprietary and open format. It is more a matter of taste which sampler you
choose: Decent Sampler (with customizable GUI) or Sforzando (which reads SFZ
directly - and is even available for Linux).
