I bought this today as soundwise it is a very good substitute for the very much missed Tremor which was discontinued years ago. Of course the sequencer is inferior compared to Tremor but the sound possibilities are really good.

I miss Tremor. And all the old FXpansion kit.

Playing with Batallion more, it is a really decent drum designer - I was mostly noodling with the synth engines (which IMHO are better for experimental stuff - there are quicker ways to get bread and butter), but there are a lot of decent samples for layering.

Not sure why they bothered with the sequencer at all at this point - just position it like DrumSpillage (also missed, only 'cause I'm now on PC) - as a kit designer.

I have Tremor working on my mac m1 running monterey in roseta mode

I couldn't even install it on my Mac M3 under Sonoma - when I desperately need it, I fire it up on my old Mac Pro but that's not really happening.

i even ran a sub to get battalion after one year. i unsubbed even so the already paid couple of month will not count on a future sub. which is highly unlikely. battalion is just too unfinished in the long run compared to all other drum machines i have. thou its on top 3 of all soundwise already^^.
i wish they would reissue tremor. demo version still works^^.

My first patch in Battalion, tweaking things on the fly, muting/unmuting instruments, having fun...

The sequencer is actually really good in terms of features it's just completely hamstrung by the lack of multiple pattterns, midi out or midi drag and drop.

I can understand how the latter would be difficult to implement given the amount of bespoke controls but the lack of multiple patterns is a head scratcher.

lack of audio or midi export deflates this plugin for me.

as i said i have tremor, and other fxpansion fx like etch, maul and bloom (which is quite unique), working on this mac m1, but only in rosetta mode. my issue with tremor is that it doesnt loads samples. they had geist for that, and i guess they didnt want to release products with overlapped functionality. i believe they went down because their software was a bit too technical and had a steep learning curve. i love it, but for most people it's too complicated. people want one knob machines.

I mostly really like Battalion, and I like the crazy results when you randomize. However being able to decipher what's modulating what is incredibly frustrating. After randomizing I have to go through each modulator to see if its modding a control. It would be handy to have colored mod rings for each mod type around the parameters to see if its lfo1 or Envelope1 or a macro controlling the parameter.

It needs this and patterns. Those are the two things keeping me from using it.

The sound and sound possibilities are amazing, but damn that GUI is something special, in a negative way. Also, I tried to extract pattern that I've created within the synth to midi in my DAW, but no luck - maybe I overlooked something?

Jamming with a custom patch in Battalion, whatever Battalion is missing, it's a great jam machine for sure.

Another annoying thing - changing presets also resets routing, which is kind of stupid. I want the kick to go on the kick channel regardless of what preset I load.

Looks like unfinished, rather than unfiltered
I thought this was the case, but right click on any value to lock it. Works for the multi outs too, so they are locked and won’t be changed by the preset.

I wrote (with audio examples) about some of Battalion's more unusual capabilities, including speeding up/slowing down individual drum parts in relation to the overall pattern.
