I agree. I am really anticipating having an SY77 in plugin form, and I don't understand why Korg did the OP6 when they already had the more powerful MOD-7 engine.
If you ever saw the original leak from NAMM where they showed the OPSix prototype

I think that was the intent, and from there as they brought it to market they went for more of an "how to edit Yamaha Style DX/FM like an analog subtractive synth and then throw in a bunch of non FM things" kind of idea

I do however have the OPSix Native plugin and use it from time to time

I am just super happy that we live in such a golden age for FM. On the horizon we not only have Sway for the SY77, but Plogue is also working on a TX81Z plugin that should (hopefully) be out this year. They already have a phenomenal 2op FM Synth based on the old Yamaha PSS portastudio home keyboards, and a 4op based on the Yamaha Chip Sega used in the Genesis

That will give me a really 2op, 4op Sega, 4op TX81Z, 6op DX7, 6op SY77, and 8 op FM-X plugins, throw on the Synclavier V from Arturia and John Chowning is my Uncle lol

You left out "F.'em" by Tracktion. It's an 11 operator synth that can do FM, VA, and sample-based synthesis. It's quite deep, and in case I didn't describe it very well, more info can be found at this link:

Actually if you look at the silkscreening of that prototype, the "throw in a bunch of non FM things" has been there as well - the diagrams show the four operator types. It was in the design space from the get go.

Opsix is a distilled MOD-7, basically. I think they made very good choices about what to keep in and how it should work.

I have it, just don't find it very useful or good

I bought F.'em when it was on sale for less than $25. I thought I got a pretty good bargain, and I liked some of the presets. I haven't tried to program anything into it yet though.

I has some good presets and I got it for cheap also, but I don't like the GUI at all. I can't really put my finger on it, but I just can't get into it

Could anyone please send a link to download demo of this synth? This thread has 37 pages, so it's hard to find

There isn't one. It's not even in beta yet.
How original

Yeah... Although the synth is being very much anticipated and eagerly waited, there is nothing to be seen yet.

There's too much talk about this non-existent plugin.

[...] And I need to make a lot of presets too.
i confirm too that this could be considered as done. For example, the presets used in the 2 or 3 demo songs + tests will be ok, and then the first thing i'll do even with the beta of SWAY, will be to load .syx files.
En even if filtered AFM presets uses more CPU, it will be OK even for first releases. ( offline rendering + future CPU will do the rest ).

in original SY77 structure, some parameters are stored not being part of main sound presets, but as external separate effects presets ( stereo PAN enveloppes slots, microtuning slots, effects slots ).
Maybe should be there some solution, for making more easier to retrieve theses slots when loading separate .syx files. Maybe having to switch between Sounddiver screen, on which is stored the relations between patch and FX slots, and the VST, so that i think this should be done manually for each patch.
Witch fortunatly, will be then saved together, as a solid VOCE MODE forever.

( secretly, i'll love that the main VSTi screen would look like the original LCD screen of my TG77, but this is absolutly not a main wish )

... and i suggest that beta testing, could start not far in time , even with not all samples implemented, maybe some first tests could begin, with of course 1 or 2 private confident person, only for testing is sys ex are good, if working with his DAW ( CUBASE, Abelton, LOGIC,...) or VST host.

There is many, many analog synth emulated into VSTi... but at this time, very few numeric FM synths are really emulated with 1:1 sys ex level.
All the sames DX7 , TX81Z loading into FM7, FM8 and now : many DX7 emul Artuia, Dexed,... the Roland D50 is emulated in Roland Cloud, the Roland MT32 has it's 1:1 VST real ROM copy into "MuntVST", and KORG made it's synth in VSTi ( M1, Trithon + analogs ).
Yamaha made it's SY50XG into SYXG-50 vsti ( now free ).

There was missing SY/TG series, and maybe this year in 2025 is the year !
from 25 years i guessed this was possible one day.
Thank you SHEAF.

Just some ideas for... far after in time and after the first release of SWAY :
the idea would be to implement the possibility of doing "MPE" MIDI with SWAY, by having multi but separate MIDI channels. This would permit to have multitimbral functions as in original synth.
One step after, would be to have alternative interface and behaviours, as an exact "1:1" virtual TG77 with it's exact RAM map behaviours. So that you load the VSTi, you load a Cubase project with it's sys.ex in tracks, prepared for the real TG77, you play, and it goes exactly as it was the real thing : (loading patches in memories slots, loading the "MULTI", directing to theses patches,.. )
and the VSTi interface would even look like the VOICE or MULTI mode LCD screen, at it's first pannel.

This is not at all "mandatory" or priority, just some "utopic" ideas :)

( .... Then, maybe 10 or 15 years after, some open-source release, so that, for example, being able to be implemented as a REAKTOR 10 ensemble in Windows 15, on full tactiles computers in 3D VR worlds :hihi: played in 4 hands me + "Lia" ... )

I'm stoked that it can be a editor for my hardware, really looking forward to the releaser

Maybe one thing, for Sheaf :

i do hope the VST develepment kit SDK can output a DLL ( or structure ) which well be OK for Windows 7 ( + win10/11...).
Some few recents plugins won't run on Windows 7 ... but most my DAW configs are still on Windows 7, because Win 10 introduces some latency ( same drivers, same hardware... ) and others compatibility problems ( older VST not compatible).
So that this is still better for me to keep a stable CUBASE + VST + VST3 configuration into Win 7 pro 64.
