I would walk around with an old Cisco phone if they where mobile. I dont even care how big those phones are I would carry it in a back pack or tie it to my waist with duct tape and rope.
I used to have an Ipad and I tried all the bs apps that integrated with the daw and I didn't like anything about it. Honestly I dont even like DAWS maybe its my age im 45, but I dont care. I do not give a single shit about new tech. I only use it because I have to. f**k plug ins, f**k touch screen, f**k the phone, f**k daws, f**k virtual drummers, f**k AI, f**k every thing except being a hermit with old tech.

I wouldn’t say I ‘embrace’ a touchscreen (can’t imagine timeline editing etc) but have my iPad as second screen to my windows pc (using spacedesk). I drag plug-ins to it for quick fx tweaks, much easier while playing guitar than reaching for the mouse. Unfortunately not all work, NI guitar rig annoyingly doesn’t.

Maybe you're more sensitive to touch, perhaps you're more sensitive to light emissions from such as screen based devices which might be because you don't get enough sleep maybe.Nathanananan wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 10:57 pm I dont like touch screen for anything. Sounds like projection there, don't you think?
No, a Wacom tablet doesn't have a screen or a CPU so they can be a lot cheaper. I picked up a brand new one a few years ago for $25.harddaysnight wrote: Wed Jan 15, 2025 10:11 pmIs a Wacom device literally my iPad that I already own?

Ha, I was joking - I know what a Wacom is, I used to do a lot of drawing etc, gave my preferred one to a friend but I think I've got another one around somewhere.BONES wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 4:06 am Sounds like projection there, don't you think?

It would be infinitely cooler if I could just my iPad do serve the same function though, that would be awesome.

I use a touch screen to augment my MIDI Fighter Twister by adding displays that the surface doesn't have via OSC.
Explanation: Reaper has the Control Surface Integrator (CSI) extension. I use that to connect all my hardware control surfaces. My MIDI Fighter Twister has no displays. CSI allows me to create an "OSC version" of the Twister and integrate it into my setup. So I can twist knobs and press buttons on the MFTwister hardware, but look over to the iPad to see which FX Params are assigned to what.
For reasons that are too deep to explain, I have to use the iPad to "Learn" the FX in CSI, so I do occasionally touch it. But after the initial mapping is done, the iPad just gets used for displays.

Not true. If you get the right ergonomics, they are excellent.Largos wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 1:03 pm Touch screens exist because they were in Star Trek, not because they are actually good.
For example I had a sit/stand electronic desk, as well as a Dell touch screen monitor on an adjustable arm. I could have it upright for normal useage, but then pull down really close to a keyboard on an angle, where I could tweak synths with the keys just under. Worked great. Another really useful position was in the standing position, with my guitar strapped on, and having the amp and effect settings right in front. So much easier to use touch screen while playing guitar than it used to be bending down to adjust stomp boxes, or having to sit and use a mouse while fiddling with you pick.
I think the MP Controller looks like a nice combination of touch screen and knobs that could fit just above a keybaord as well.

Those are arguments for remote control not touch screens.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 2:16 pmNot true. If you get the right ergonomics, they are excellent.Largos wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 1:03 pm Touch screens exist because they were in Star Trek, not because they are actually good.

Next year, embracing a touch screen without its consent might land one in legal trouble.
Meanwhile -- to answer the question -- I do not have a touch screen.
For me this kind of question is somehow related to Aiken's "Silent Snow, Secret Snow" and Sologub's "Light and Shadows".

They are arguments for a touch screen because that is what I used when I was doing what I described.Largos wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 12:40 amThose are arguments for remote control not touch screens.Echoes in the Attic wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 2:16 pmNot true. I've never understood people's interest in iPads. To me they combine all the limitations of a smartphone with all the inconvenience of a laptop. i.e. You can't run proper applications on them and they won't fit in your pocket.harddaysnight wrote: Thu Jan 16, 2025 4:14 amIt would be infinitely cooler if I could just my iPad do serve the same function though, that would be awesome.

You using them doesn't mean they are good. Do I really live in a world where people will install an app because they don't want to bend over and change a stomp box knob on the floor?Echoes in the Attic wrote: Fri Jan 17, 2025 1:20 am They are arguments for a touch screen because that is what I used when I was doing what I described.
