Here's an update, it's not a good one though. I killed the laptop screen of the Lenovo by accidently standing on it whilst it was closed in a dark room. The screen didn't crack but half the screen is totally messed up so it's pretty much unusable (Pressure Damage). However it retained it's full touch capability which is functional as is the rest of the laptop components including the hinges. I've hooked up a separate monitor for now vie its HDMI output for now. I've already had to buy a replacement battery and now I'm awaiting for a new touchscreen as well. I guess I'm fortunate to be able to buy a replacement screen and just have to wait another 10 days for that to arrive and it will be all as good as new (I hope). But this cheap laptop is costing me more than I though it would. I guess I'm fortunate I didn't drop it down the stairs and break it completely. I've got a Toshiba Laptop I've looked after since 2008 and never had any accidents that it couldn't withstand. If I stood on that, it would probably laugh at me as it's built like a tank. Only has the new laptop for a month, and I guess accidents do happen. Just fortunate that it's not a really expensive machine.

My first laptop I mentioned above cost around 200 pounds, and flew up and down the UK a number of times, never had any problems. I used it today whist the T480s remains on the table with a 14 inch black screen hooked to my Samsung monitor as it might possible be configured. It's kinda like a desktop replacement for Studio One although I'll be with just one screen. For now I think I'll keep it as just that whilst waiting for the new screen and use my Toshiba for browsing the web and music listening. Right now I'm in the middle of building a new studio and there is nowhere to put anything till I get everything sorted out. I'm looking at either building a protective case or buying one for my Lenovo Thinkpad which I can then mount in a wooden and metal surround. Accidents happen, shit happens, things break so easily these days. The laptop was put aside under my bed when I got up so I wouldn't stand on it going out the room, but obviously not far enough for me to not put my left foot on it, for a few micro seconds. Didn't even see it due to the memory foam mattress that overhung it and with a curtain drawn. I've never broken any computer components since my teenage (15) years where I blew up an Atari Mega ST by trying to connect a CRT TV to it because I was bored of the monochrome display I had. Only had about 4 and half hours sleep on the morning of the laptop incident, I'm quite tall now at 5'11", and was busy that morning running earins.

I've a large desktop PC and that's chained to the wall now as it sits on a table, it's about 1300 pounds worth of stuff in the 14 years I've had it. That's my gaming PC for the summer now. To have that break on me would be really terrible.

lenovo makes garbage ime... save your money next time. The screen would have failed like
that eventually without any assistance from you.

The OP laptop is a secondhand Lenovo 480s, probably 8th generation intel, (he told us in another thread),which is a Lenovo laptop bought in vast numbers for business use around 2018. These refurburbished laptops are available in very large numbers on ebay at bargain bucket prices. The fact that they have survived this long is pretty amazing. The great thing about these laptops is that all the parts for these machines are available very cheaply on ebay - for instance, a brand new screen can be purchased for just £35.99 ($43.90).

I have a lenovo with a similar screen issue and no stepping on it was ever involved. They are crap, buying them cheap is not even worth it imo.

You may,or may not be right,I hope you are wrong,as I have a new Lenovo Yoga still in warranty. If money was no object, I would have gone Apple. But as for the rest of the bunch, is any PC make better than another? They all look the much of a muchness to me. By the way, I have an old Lenovo L380 from 2018 with a touchscreen still doing fine.

I my past laptop fleet Thinkpads do better than Dell for sure. I say "Thinkpads" because that are the only Lenovos I buy.

Maybe my lenovo experience is not typical, I got mine free in any event. It still works but theres a couple big black spots on the screen that move around from time to time. Its not touch either. I only keep it as a back up...

Apart from the laptop screen which is corrupted but still intact and touch sensitivity still works properly, everything else works as normal. Not having the laptop screen displaying right is more of an inconvenience but not too much of one as my table is more like a workbench with power drills, screws, headphones, metal brackets, audio interfaces and MDF boards and has been for the past week I'm still figuring out what I need to buy from Amazon the things I need to construct the rest of my new studio setup like fixtures and fittings such as hinges, brackets, VESA mounts.
New screen is due to arrive on the 25th of January so hopefully not too long. I guess I now know just how much force it takes to break a laptop screen and how fragile they actually are. I've never seen any tests of just how durable laptops actually are on the internet. Youtube reviews never actually properly test the durability of any new laptop they get. All they ever do is talk about the specs, not the actual quality and durability of them and giving them a good test physically.
My plan is to build an exoskeleton frame container for this Thinkpad out of steel plate, wood, Perspex, and rubber-fabric, whilst housing motorised fans for cooling and possibly an audio interface housed in there also. It might be a bit heavier but then it will be bullet proof too.

My old laptop screen can be used as a light table with a bit of electrical wiring jiggery-pockery or perhaps light which I can use for some studio lighting.
