I have a big file that I would like to send - have rar'ed it but it is still 7 times too big to send via yahoo or hotmail - any tips on how I can send it or make it much much smaller so it will fit either of the freebie accounts??

Please keep it simple!

Thanks in advance chaps!

failing squishing, you can drop the package there and have it picked up:

Cool looking site EZ, thanks for that.

Doesn't RAR have an option to split files into bite size chunks. Given that the maximum attachment size you can send is 10 MB on most accounts (I think), you could split it up into 9.9 MB chunks and send them all seperately. Unless you mean that there's just not enough space in the inbox full stop, that is.

WinRAR can split compressed files up into user-specified chunks. When you click "Add" and the dialog box pops up you'll see a box marked "Split to volumes, bytes" where you can enter the size of the chunks you want.

If you're going to be sending them through email be sure to leave a little headroom for the encoding scheme that will be used (MIME or UUENCODE) which can be as much as 33%.

If it's an audio file, you may try Monkeys Audio...

Though the recipent will need the software to extract it.

if you're working with WAV's, you might want to try running them through Monkey's Audio set to its highest compression level setting (I believe it's called "Insane" :D), and then RAR the resulting .APE files into a single RAR archive.
I've gotten pretty nice results doing this, and since Monkey's Audio is a freeware lossless audio compression program, both you and the person on the receiving end can easily use it to compress/decompress the files. :)
