Has no one given this a try yet? I’d like to hear some people’s honest thoughts about this that have also used vocalign, before I give it a test run.

I've never really understood the use case for these types of things. I just edit things in the DAW timeline if I need them lined up in a specific way. What does it do that just editing can't do?
Don't F**K with Mr. Zero.

It's far quicker than doing such editing manually.

Hopefully someone not named Waves makes a good VocAlign alternative. I like VocAlign but it's expensive for what it is. Knowing Waves, this will be $30 soon, but I'm still hoping for a WUP-less alternative.

Post

Been using vocalign for years but after Synchro Arts got bought from LANDR and then asked customers to pay for an upgrade which turned out to be a re-branding of what was there previously I was waiting for somebody else to offer a decent alternative.

Turns out Waves (and their WUP) are first out the gate to offer some competition .... and that's a bit like being rescued from the clutches of a werewolf by a vampire.

Still hoping for a decent company to offer something to all the pi$$ed off vocalign customers.

I am happy with Cubase Vocalign system honestly...

This looks pretty great to me as a nice alternative to Vocalign. Definitely need to demo it.

I'm very excited about Waves Sync -- the UX feels great, it guides you through what you need to do and lets you process up to four separate tracks at once (unlike VocAlign Pro.) But it's not like Revoice because Revoice runs outside of your DAW...

I felt screwed over by SynchroArts. They shipped a buggy version of V5 and then required a paid upgrade to V6 in order to get the fix... Given the timing of how that played out, it felt intentional and one would be naive to suggest it wasn't.

Also, VocAlign was the one reason I still have iLok on my machine -- and iLok is such garbage I have unrecoverable licenses for other software due to a machine that crashed unrecoverably (ironically from a problem with iLok!!!)

iLok doesn't even display correctly on HiDPI monitors. I can't wait to get it off my machine...

However... I'm having a problem with Waves Sync Vx in that it won't work in Reaper. It hangs at 30%, it can't complete the sync operation. I spent an hour trying every possible bit of troubleshooting but no luck...

Can anyone else test it on Reaper and confirm a successful sync? It would be helpful to know if it's my machine or the software... Waves has good support so if it's the software I'm sure it'll be fixed quickly.

Anyhow, it's promising -- and awesome that it's included in Mercury.

I had the same problem. I reinstalled it from Waves Central without uninstalling it first and let it run on two clips for a minute or two. After that, it worked much faster. It seems like it's unpacking something or downloading additional files on the first run, and if that process gets interrupted, things can go wrong.

Thank you Emphatic3302, I appreciate the help! I followed your advice (had to reinstall Mercury again) --- but that's all it took. That time it worked, and it worked great!

I did a head to head comparison with VocAlign and the results were far more natural with Sync Vx... And Sync Vx didn't require any manual sync markers when VocAlign required several.

I did test the sync markers and they're totally different in Sync Vx! They feel more like stretch markers, so it's a more intuitive workflow. This is way better than how VocAlign does it.

We finally have some real competition in the vocal sync race, and Sync Vx is winning!

Phase aligned and pitch tuned if necessary too. Its actually quite powerful, its not just for vocals, but you can phase align a multi mic film shoot too.
